From gateworld.net... Frell yeah! Farscape's Ben Browder will join the regular cast of Stargate SG-1 for the show's ninth season, SCI FI announced today.
Forty-two-year-old, Memphis-born Browder played Commander John Crichton for four years on SCI FI's Farscape, and recently reprised the role for the mini-series Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars. He has also appeared on Party of Five, Melrose Place, Murder, She Wrote, and CSI: Miami.Personally, I've never watched Farscape, but I've heard nothing but good things about this guy from fandom. I don't remember seeing him on CSI:Miami but I didn't really have reason to remember either. I think he should be the 4th member of SG-1...maybe a 'by-the-book' type like Carter was in the beginning, with Carter now playing type of role Jack did with breaking her in. |

Jack was put iin command of the SGC. |
The what?!?!? |
Richard Dean Anderson (the actor who plays Jack O'Neill) wants to spend more time at home with his kids, so they reduced his shooting schedule. Also, when Don S. Davis (General Hammond) left the series, they just bumped O'Neill up to General, thus he has to be on set even less. Also, Amanda Tapping (Samantha Carter) may be out for awhile as she's due to deliver her kid around the time production resumes. So basicly RDA may be leaving and Tapping may be absent for awhile. |

SG-1 certainly has been dull for the last two years. I think Ben Browder could breathe new life into it, especially if RDA and Tapping are reduced. As for Atlantis, I have to disagree. The show has a tremendous amount of potential that should be utilised in upcoming seasons. More so than SG-1, this show could become much like DS9 in terms of recurring characters and the setting except you have more potential for off-ship/station missions. Dr. McKay is quite simply the funniest character to grace sci-fi since Firefly aired. His wit is unsurpassed. Atlantis is worth watching if just for him. So far, I'm impressed with Atlantis, it's certainly much better than SG-1 is. This appointment of Browder gives me some hope that SG-1 can become stronger in it's ninth year. |
