While I've been away, Ryo closed some threads here. Now looking at these threads that were closed, I would challenge ANYONE to say that they were in line with board policy. They were all hugely political and in some cases there was flaming going on too.
People seem to have a problem with the fact that he's not listed in the "Forum lead by:" bit on the board. They seem to think he shouldn't have any power here because of that. The fact is is that it is not a bug or anything - every moderators power of opression is global.
Now I know it's not common for different mods to act outside their direct sphere of influence. We tend to look after our assigned patches and leave it at that. From time to time though, if I'm browsing around and see something that is blatently wrong then I'll act on it. I've intervened in threads in the SOF, SOF II, Q4 and General chat boards before now - probably others as well. It's called being helpful. I don't see why when the threads were so clearly deserving of a padlock that Ryo has taken so much flak. To top it off, on this particular occasion Ryo was actually doing me a favour. Just before I went away I got a mail from Wolf, he's having problems with his account and is currently unable to log on. This was going to leave Speed on his own and the board unmodded during the GMT time zone. I talked to Ryo just before I went and he said he'd pop his head in every now and again to see everything was OK. So basically, he's taken a lot of grief for doing ME a favour. It never occured to me that people would have an issue with him helping out.
Now, I could understand the issue if threads were being closed that wouldn't normally be. I could sympathise with that. There was a famous example a couple of years back when some Raven dude with mod powers wondered into the forums and misinterpreted a thread. It lead to some bannings until MRJ turned up and set things straight. Thats not the case here though. I personally would have closed all those threads that Ryo did, he behaved more or less as I would in the situations. It certainly did not warrent the amount of hassle that it has caused.
In future, if some other mod closes a thread that was going to die as soon as one of us regular mods saw it anyway, then whats the problem? As long as they're not rampaging around closing threads left right and center whilst disresepecting your mothers, I don't see it being an issue. |

last night at the concert I got seperated from the people I came with; at the end of the show I went to go see if they were at the 'coat check'.
nope. nobody there.
so I turn around to go back in to the theater. but a security guard stopped me. (note: the coat check is located inside the building, on this sort of 'concourse' area, about 4 steps away from the auditorium-area)
"excuse me sir but you can't go back in after you've left"
"I haven't left yet. I'm just looking for.."
"Do you see this sign? it says "exit. once you leave you will not be...."
"no. I didn't see the sign. but thats ok, since as you can see, I haven't left yet"
(at this point he gets real close and tries to press his chest into my face, all the while 'bumping' me backwards out of the theater)
"Wow. thats a nice Tshirt they gave you. is that your 'uniform'? you must take that really seriously. I bet it makes you feel important."
(no comment from the security dude)
"alright fine. be a prick if thats your thing. I'll be back in a sec"
(glaring frown from the security dude, as I walk away)
----
at this point, I left the roped-in part of the theater, went past the coat check, around the concourse, and I used my ticket stub to get back in through the main entrance.
then I made a point of looking for my friends again.. on the concourse.. by the coat check.
I saw the same security goon. I stood right next to his all-important-sign, and I waved. I smiled. "Hey buddy.. ..thats a really nice Tshirt you got there. I bet it makes you feel important"
(no comment from the security dude)
then I went back into the auditorium-area to look for my friends.
-----------------
MORAL of the story?
well. there isn't one. sorry. I'm just using this excuse to relive the concert.hehe

I had no comment on the matter when it happened, I honestly could have cared less, but for the longest time I've wonder who this Ryo guy was and why he was never listed as an allowed mod of our forums, now that I know why, would it be that hard for the Admin here to restrict mods to the forums where they are assigned to mod?
I could care less about the two topics, espically if they were OT anyway, but regaurdless of the global mod props, the mods should stay where they are assigned, we still had other mods here...
