DUDE!

You dont need to zip it just copy it onto the disk. .BSP or .MAP don`t matter.

Otherwise use winzip or winrar these programs are everywhere....

It does matter. If you want to work on the map, having the .bsp will do you no good.

What he said though is correct; no real need to zip it up although, what I did with mine was this: Since I already had the .pk3 created, I just kept a copy of the .map in there and e-mailed the .pk3 to myself back and forth.

You must realize a floppy will only hold 1.44mb. So zipping it up will make the file much smaller be it bsp or .map, or pk3.
Backup Your Work or your Work will be gone.

you will also need to include any custom textures, sounds, scripts etc. I would make a pk3 with the compiled bsp, ready to play, and the map file included. then you can just copy the map file back and forth to keep both versions the same, laptop and desktop. but anytime a new texture or anything is added, both versions need to be updated

What about using email? Could you use your email account to hold the file and then grab it with your laptop?
Send it to yourself sort of thing?

if you email it - IT MUST BE ZIPPED

.map files can be so easily corrupted when sent electronically that it isn't funny

save yourself some grief and zip any .map file before electronically transferring it [angryalien]
