The trains around here are good, i guess. Never really ridden on one.

They shut down our "classic" tourist train a little while ago Which really sucks. The Royal Hudson was awesome

yeah...the trains here are really only used for tourism...

Well It's partially a subway. The stations are underground in the inner city, but for the rest of the network they are in open air. @Alpharaptor, they would scrap the system i'm sure, but they just don't get the money. Building the system to the size it is now was possible back when it was done but it would be too expensive now.

heh only good thing about the maps on the walls isn't really a "good" thing. They have these rule stickers under the maps (like no littering, no drinking/smoking etc) and people always make amusing messages out of them by scribbling out selected letters =P yes thats probably the only thing I like about them. Uh not that I do it myself... =P

Yeah I hear its similarly bad in the UK (in fact I heard from some friends who went to london that they thought they were back in sydney when they read all the station names heheh)

Um...we have an Amtrak station.

Oh, and there's the Streetcars.  New Orleans streetcars are somewhat famous.  The ones thqat run uptown are OK.  Ir's an interesting ride, although they aren't air conditioned.  Streetcars used to run down Canal Street (our Main St.).  The cars and rails were removed from that street a few decades ago and not after two years of construction, the Streetcars are running again on Canal St.  It's a pretty big deal over here.  The new cars are nice, smooth ride, air conditioned.  It's a white elephant for the city money-wise but I think it's a great downtown development project.  Hopefully it'll help bring more shops to Canal Street.

trains in my area??

well in downtown Toronto you have the Subway.... then for the GTA (greater Toronto Area) we have GO Trains (GO=Government of Ontario)

they are actually really reliable, hardly ever late or delayed!

Lets play a game. Think of as many stupid things you could say by scribbling out letters/parts of letters in the following warnings.

"Surveillance cameras may be in use. Plain clothes and uniformed police patrol this train."

"At night, travel near the guard's compartment marked with a blue light"

"Please vacate this seat for elderly or less mobile passengers"

thats what they look like.

uh try to ignore the people and look behind them. these are seriously the best photos i could find =P

well now that I just said that, today (the first time i've ridden the go train in like three weeks) it was SO slow!

First of all, it took forever at each station, because it was having door problems... then it had to stop in the between two stations to pick up a maintainence crew... then it had to stop because there was a fire on the train tracks beside us, so they could put it out!

so a 30 minute train ride became 50 minutes! oh well...
