I was contemplating it myself (in Canada), as you can get a free education (from Royal Military College in Kingston) and come out of it as an officer.
But, they do quarterly physical tests which include sit-ups, which I can't do properly because of back trouble. I asked them about partial exemptions, but no-one was able to give me a straight answer. I also asked them about serving in a non-military capacity in the Department of National Defense (like signals intelligence or something), but they said it had to be military service.
And, in general, I'm not especially keen to join the military, although I'd consider something related but non-combat like signals intelligence (the Canadian equivalent of the US' NSA is a part of our Department of National Defence).
So, that's a scratch for me... |

This has always been an idea in the back of my head, but the same issue always pops up- I'd never make it through Basic (my mile time is classified, dont ask). I've thought about possibly the CIA or NSA or something like that (can you imagine those servers? hehe), but I really dont want to move to the DC area and it doesnt seem they hire people right out of HS going for a 2-year CNS degree... |

13 Years? It's 8 in the U.S....13's pretty steep. I intend to join the Army as a Information Systems Operator/Analyst when I graduate High School. I know I could pass basic, because I'm a a pretty decent athlete. I have been getting a little lazy lately though, and intend to exercise a lot during summer, but I know I can survive what they throw at me. Only problem is my eyes, which are the reason I most likely can't fly, something I really want to do. But yes, definetly join if you think you can take the training and such. The benefits while in and afterwards are very worth the service you put in, especially if you go to college and enter as an Officer. |
