I could record directly from a stream by opening Windows Sound Recording and running a line from my Sound-Out port to my Mic-In port, no special software needed, and then I could convert to MP3 later.

No 3rd part apps needed.

Is there a way to get Soundforge to record whatever comes across my system speakers w/out plugging the speaker into the line in port?

Yes there is. But I have no experience with soundforge so I can't step you through it.

I dont know how it would be for your sound car, but with mine I just have to go into the sound card's settings and change it's 'recording' source from 'line-in' to 'stereo mix'... And then it records anything that is played on my computer
