I just closed all ports on our dedi, except the necessary ones. I added the UDP ports for SOF2 (20100-20110).

When im trying to start the game server (20100), the game doesnt start. It seems like it hangs when trying to tell the reference servers about its whereabout.

Do I need to have additional ports open?

( I have TCP 21, 80, 5900 open + USP 20100-20110)

It never resolves to the master servers, so it wont get listed even if the console didnt freeze (as it does now).
As soon as I open all ports again, everything is back to normal.

You should be running the server on a port number 20101 or higher in your batch file or in sof2runner, as the default client is 20100 (if you are running a client on that network). Double check the forwarding on the router is set to the proper ip for your game server.

Are you running an FTP server and HTTP server off that connection also?,, those are what the port numbers 21 and 80 are for, I have them closed on my router.

Im not running a game client, so 20100 isnt used. But thats the only ports communication is using (20100->)
Im gonna try using 20101 instead, as I think i used 20100. (long shot)

Should not have to open a bunch of ports to run the server. I only have 20100 (UDP) open on the router, never a problem. Something else maybe? Firewall, XP or otherwise? Have you changed cabling on router (server connected to a different port)? If so, your internal IP address would have changed, although I remember reading somewhere here that you don't need to specify an IP in the config file. This would matter as the IP address, along with the port must be specified in the router set-up. I leave it in the config anyway. Just a suggestion, hope you figure it out. Later.

As everyone else has said, you don't need to open a series of ports. I only have one open, 20100. Do you specify the port in your start up caommand?
To specify the port in your start-up command add this:  +set net_port 20100

Be sure to have your port forwarding set up to the server's internal network IP.  Also, most firewalls want to know which IP's to allow, specify all, or no specific IP's.

I just run port reporter on the dedi and it lists all SOF2 game server traffic on port TCP445?
How come? i defined UDP 20101-20105 in the server resp config! (command line)

umm, Rev,, you did set the port forwarding in your rotuer and the server firewall to match what you have on the server command line itself right?
