how do i make a direcotry/folder accessible so that every file in that folder is shown when u open the link.

now im doing chmod a=r sof2stuff (<--filename)

and i get an error.

chmod:getting attributes of "sof2stuff" : No such file or direcotry

so far the permissions: drwxr-xr-x

but when i go to the link for example [url=http://[url=www.adelphi.edu/]www.adelphi.edu/~shutad/sof2stuff][url=www.adelphi.edu/]www.adelphi.edu/~shutad/sof2stuff it says i dont have permission to view the contents of the whole folder but if i go

[url=http://[url=www.adelphi.edu/]www.adelphi.edu/~shutad/sof2stuff/flag.jpg][url=www.adelphi.edu/]www.adelphi.edu/~shutad/sof2stuff/flag.jpg it will let me access the file.

i want to make it so whenever someone goes to

they will be able to see a list of all the contents, do u know what i mean? eheheh this is the permission the folder has http://home.adelphi.edu/~shutad/unix.gif
but now the viwer has to know the exact url for the file he wants to view, i want to make it so when he hits the 1st link he will be able to see everything and chose whatever file he wants to view.

why not just create an index file that simply lists the contents. It may be more simple.
Also the server you are using may not allow root directory access with out user login.

take out any index files, and remove the .htaccess file for the folder. You w ill then see a file listing when you access the folder
