I'd really appreciate it if people who are not very "qualified" to speak about quake games refrained from actually speaking about them. In other words, I'm sick of seeing mainly MMORPG-players who only play FPS games every once in a while, giving their opinions on how this game should be. They don't speak for the majority of Quakers, and their opinions should be kept to themselves. Also, they should take into account how hard it is for programmers to create a competitive FPS game and a game accessible to newer players at the same time. I saw one post with a kid who wanted everything in the environment to be interactive, so he could trip over chairs... Are you serious?! I mean REALLY! So from now on, if you don't have much experience with FPS games (Quakes mainly, or id games for that matter) please think about what you're saying. If you don't know what something is, don't say it sucks. (such as the people who hate strafe jumping because they think it's a "glitch") Quake has been used as a competitive game since #1 came out, and has stayed competitive due to staying with its roots. Don't ask for retarded things like "flaming pickles" like some kid did. No, I'm not an employee of Raven Software, so I'm not sure if I am in a position to ask for these things, however, I do consider it an insult to all those who have remained loyal to id over the years, when players who don't have a clue come along and try to influence the decisions of a company who is trying to make a GOOD game. They have a right to post, but they should really realize what makes a good QUAKE game. |

I think everyone's entitled to an opinion, and should be able to speak their minds as well. It's mostly up to Raven what to do with Quake IV ánd with what the community asks for. However, I do think they'd be mad not to at least try and make Quake IV a game worthy of its name. That's what I want to see. A game that's good enough for it to be a Quake game. |

It's been done and adds a realistic outlook on the game. If their is a can on the ground and you run over it, you kick it. An interesting concept to a game. | Quote | | So from now on, if you don't have much experience with FPS games (Quakes mainly, or id games for that matter) please think about what you're saying. |
Now I'm not sure exactly who you are refering to here but here is my list of FPS games that I have played and I've beaten about 90% of them. -James Bond 007 Night Fire -Alien vs. Predator -Alien vs. Predator 2 -Alien vs. Predator 2:Primal Hunt -Delta Force -Deus Ex GOTY -Deus Ex: Invisible War -Devastation -Morrowind -Global Operations -Gore -Half-Life GOTY -Half-Life Opposing Forces -Half-Life Blue Shift -Halo -Heritic II -Hexen II -Max Payne -Max Payne II -Medal of Honor -Medal of Honor: Spearhead -Project IGI -Quake I -Quake II -Quake III Arena/Team Arena -Return To Castle Wolfenstein -Revolution -Sin -Soldier of Fortune -Soldier of Fortune II -Star Trek Elite Force -Star Wars: Dark Force -Star Wars: Jedi Knight:Dark Forces II -Star Wars: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast -Star Wars: Jedi Outcast II: Jedi Academy -The Thing -Unreal -Unreal II -Unreal Tournament -Unreal Tournament 2003 -Wolfenstein 3D -Duke Nukem 3D -Quake III Revolution -Red Faction -Red Faction II -Socom -TimeSplitters II -Turok:Evolution -Medal of Honor: Frontline -Witchhaven -Doom -Doom II -Heretic -Hexen -TekWars -Redneck Rampage(unfortunately) -Tribes -Blake Stone -Rise of the Triad -Shadow Warrior -Thief II -Hired Guns Not to mention all the Quake I and Quake II mods and all the FPS games that seem to have slipped from my memory. So nxlimit how many games does it take to be considered "qualified" to speak about Quake games or any for that manner? If you are so qualified how many FPS games have you played or even beaten? I've had plenty of experience with Quake since it came out and I can probably list all sorts of mods(patches they were called back then)that most never heard of and that I still have. Oh and one last thing. What makes a good Quake game is originality and coming up with new things never done before i.e. Quake 1 & Quake 2. Quake 4 should be original and set the new standard for FPS games just like 1 and 2 did before them. That is the legacy of the Quake series that loyal ID and Quake fans know to be the basis behind the series. |

I'm definitely in agreement with much of your post nxlimit. I generally believe that people should have a right to free speech and their own wishes; however, there should be a bit more serious thought required when offering suggestions for a commercial game. Most suggestions should be more functional as opposed to the often trivial. People making trivial or incoherent suggestions are wasting Raven's time.Raven did, however, say "bring them"... I've been following id Software since before Wolf3D, and have pursued developing maps and mods for each of their subsequent games. I've always been impressed by the modification abilities they include with their software. Quake IV will probably be no different (just released by Raven), so people should keep that in mind when making suggestions... they could make their own mods if they believe their idea is really noteworthy enough for the Q4 public. At any rate, Raven will probably be concentrating on making Q4 the game they believe it should be... poor suggestions or not. "Flaming pickles"? That sounds like a "show" you'd see in a bar in Thailand... not that I would have watched it... out David. |

TalonOFF you are very correct that however the Quake IV game turns out we either like it or not. Our ideas and opinions are things that we either want to see in this game or see in future releases of games. Ideas and concepts for better gaming, that's my goal. I used to love text based games, anybody remember Zork? | Quote | | I like dense atmosphere, a good story line and an unexpected ending. |
All true. Those are all things that apply to the "fun factor" and unexpected endings is something not many fps games have right now. Quake 3, what ending and what storyline and what atmosphere? Ravensoft will make the game how they see fit. If they read these posts and see anything worthwhile that they see would make Q4 a better game then good for them and better games for us. Ravensoft should be able to see the practical usefull ideas from the endless void of the garble of useless ideas. |
