If you want something good for less then get the AMD, if money isn't a big problem then I'd go for Pentium 4.

What Monox said. If you can afford a P4 I'd get one. Personally I have all AMD systems and they are fine.

Right now you can get a pent 4  3.2 gig cpu for $370

The new AMD 64FX is $730.

The old issues of price just don't apply anymore.  If AMD thinks they have anything that is "twice" as good as a 3.2 pentium, they are smoking a bad brand of rope.  (Come to think of it, they are smoking a bad brand of rope.)

If you do some reading on Pentium 2.2 and 2.4   and get the proper stepping (2c), you can easily get 2.7 -3.0  with air cooling.

These are my settings for what I'll buy in the future (few months) ....thats if nothing changes..

I have a question on the red text, I have an option to choose system power, but the case already has 420 WATT ...
So what do I do? I researched and I cant find out..

Also on the memory upgrade, I dont how much memory it is.
Does it double the memory? Cant find out..

You can also get numerous Athlon XP's that overclock like crazy for under $100 (everything up to the 2600+).  You'd be hard pressed to find any decent Pentium4 for under $100.  The Athlon 64 3200+ is also about the same price as the 3.2Ghz P4, and the 3000+ is cheaper than the 3.0Ghz P4.

If you want the absolute fastest processor, then the 64FX is it (the P4EE will be on par, but it's more expensive).  But as mentioned above, the current P4 3.2 is the better deal.  I like AMD personally because of the easy overclocking, though all my notebooks have been Intel.

Overall winner in the CPU battle is AMD, imo:
Good pricing, good reliability, decent speed, good compatability, good company.

Intel:
More expensive, good reliability, good speed, good compatibility, and perhaps not as good a company, imo.

I kinda see AMD as the underdog.

I just got a new MO stepping 2.4c (the one that is a castrated EE chip), and an AI7, and it was prime stable at 3.4 GHz with stock cooling and voltages, then my ram gave out and I could go no higher. (gonna get me some Mushkin 3500 black lvl 2 and see what this puppy will do) I say get a P4 if you can afford it, but if you can't get a AMD proc, but also look at what you will use it for. the Athlon xp FPU is about 20x faster so therefor non sse2 floating point is much slower on p4s, but in video editing and heavy integer tasks the p4s higher clock speed and hyper threading allow it to blow away the athlon. (compare performace on Premiere pro, the P4 owns). In gaming they aren't too different, video card plays a bigger role, also if you plan to overclock p4s are more forgiving, it is very hard to kill them short of giving them insane voltages. AMD chips aren't, they will blow and take the mobo with them.
