STUPIDLY FICKLE. I'm running on a fast machine. A brand new machine. I'm running on a cable modem. I have a fixed IP address and I've taken my firewall down. There's no router to #### with anything. I put the appropriate values in all the setting slots, and I launch a game. My friend tries to connect with it directly, and nothing damned happens. He gets a "waiting for server," message and never connects. Then, ten minutes later, I'll do everything exactly the same way, and he'll be able to connect. This is frustrating! What the heck is going on? Why can he sometimes connect and sometimes can't. We're using identical settings. We're both on cable modem. We're both running the patched version. Why can't he see me, or my server see him?

As far as I know, we're both using an identicle port number. I had him add the port after the IP number in the connection, though. No dice. I'm completely baffled. I can connect to an existing server. He can connect to an existing server. We can't connect directly to each other.

its probably something to do with ur ISP's settings. I got that problem with a friend. u both on the same ISP?

Only thing I could suggest is to contact your ISP about it. If its on their end, not much you can do... what happened for me with jk2, I started a server and he wouldn't be able to see it straight away. then some time later he could, but partly through he just got disconnected. it was very confusing
