So, I just got this game and seeing as how I remember liking the mp-demo back in the day, I decided to try it. Unfortunantely it hasn't exactly been smooth sailing... I was hoping you guy could help me out.
First, the setup: Custom Machine P4 2.8 800FSB Asus motherboard P4P800 Deluxe (not sure on this) 512Mb DDR 3700 RAM (TwinMOS Twister) Leadtech Geforce4 Ti4400 Win XP Pro
So, now to my problems. I only ever encounter problems when enabling PunkBuster. If I leave it off, everything is fine. Unfortunantely it seems that all the good severs (most anyway) require PB to be enabled, so....
Problem 1: I manage to join, but the computer freezes after just a few seconds. And I mean really freezes, not even ctrl+alt+del works. As a side note, I've been running this installation of Win XP on this exact hardware since June, and this is the only software in that time that has managed to freeze my comp up completely. I tried changing pb_system from 0 to 1 and back again with no effect.
I think I managed to solve this by getting the old drivers 45.28 from Nvidia and then setting everything but the controls to default in the game. I have only played once so far though, so I'm not sure it works.
Problem 2: Now this is even more annoying. Now that I've finally got the game running, it seems that somethings wrong with the controls. With certain weapons (M4, M60, and others) the game constantly reloads by itself, or fires secondary fire constantly without any input from me. There's been oher wierd stuff happening as well. In short, it feels like I'm playing some kind of pre-alpha or something. I have a feeling it might be a conflict between the game and OSP, so I tried disabling all the options for it, but no luck.
Again, I'd just like to say that I've had no problems with any other software so far. (well, except for Temple of Elemental Evil, but even Atari has admitted that game has more bugs than Win95) I'd appreciate any help you can give me, since I really like this game. Or at least, I remember loving the MP-demo back in 199something. The full game seems pretty ####ed up so far tho... |

Problem 1: Yes, the older drivers fix this known problem for now. PB will eventually sort it (they are aware). Problem 2: Check out this - WISER2. It works with all versions of SOF2. Secondly, do the basics like removing the mouse from the port and plugging back in. Also, if you have any drivers for the mouse, uninstall these (I think some logitech mice, amongst others, have this problem). Also there are a few mods available for SOF2. OSP is one for example. Each mod has its on CFG file where you can save different key setups. This is because of extra features that you can map to your keyboard. |
