Ok, Im reformatting my computer this week and I want to put Windows XP back on it but I also want to install Linux, I have the Red Hat version, now I need to know which to install first and Im going to partishion(sp?) my hard drive, im going to use FAT32 and see if I could install Windows to one part, and linux to the other part. I want to be able to have both linux and windows run some prorams, like Movies, pics, HTML files and such, now is that possible?

- install windows first - fairly recent (last couple of years) versions of Red Hat can auto-detect the windows installation and auto-create a bootloader menu for you.

- you'll probably have to partition your hard drive first using a DOS or Linux boot disk manually

- if you set up windows to use FAT32, you should be able to "mount" it in Linux (meaning you can see your Windows partition from your Linux installation).  There are recent Linux drivers for NTFS, but they're experimental at the moment.

it will stay partioned. also you can format the c drive without affecting the data on the d drive. so it's good for backing up before a format

No you can patitions until the cows come home, or you harddrive breaks first. Just partition the partitions you need for Windows during the Windows install and leave the extra unpartitioned space for Linux. When you boot the RH Install CD then you will create the patitions during the install process. I think you can autopatition but I don't recall if that repartitions the entire drive as I no longer use Red Hat on my home computer, and I haven't had to reinstall Red Hat on any of the servers at work. You can mount NTFS partitions under Linux however you can only do read-only right now safely.
