I've been trying to follow this tutorial to get the portal/camera to work. If I put the portal shader on my "viewer" I get nothing. The face simply appears to be invisible. I tried covering my whole brush in the _portal shader, tried only the front, but nothing will work. The only thing I got working is turning it into a mirror, and that's not what I want :(.

Is there anyone who has been succesful in doing a portal in SOF2?

Thanks in advance!

Why is it that you always find the answer after you post a thread? :D. Anyways, for anyone else struggling with it, I copied the shader from this tutorial and it worked great!

Yeah it works, here's the screenshot... just added a quick TV-like screen which'll definitely not be there in the final map...

Two things to note:

1. The portal shows a 3D rendering of the camera as if the scene was actually there. Like in a mirror, when you move, the viewpoint also moves (as you can see in the screenshot, the camera shows a little more of the left side, while it shows both sides equal when standing right in front of the "TV")

2. It kills FPS. I normally get at least 60 FPS standing there. When I accidentally forgot to pass-protect my testserver and 4 people were suddenly playing in it, 10 FPS was no exception. For this reason I will only use a portal in a secret area where you can see people die (if a player falls on the rails they will be teleported before dying so it seems they've stopped moving through the tunnel)... I wouldn't recommend using it anywhere in normal gameplay...

...well, I was gonna try to explain it, but it seems you figured it out in the meantime :D. If anyone else needs a small tutorial, just ask...

shame that one line was left out the shaders file that awesome-o wrote.

If you try to use it radiant errors at line 15 in that file.

Here's the shaders file that works fine:
--------------------------Copy/Paste-----------------------------
textures/my_portal/portal_tex
{
qer_editorimage textures/my_portal/a_portal.tga
surfaceparm playerclip
surfaceparm nolightmap
portal
{
map textures/my_portal/a_portal.tga
blendFunc GL_ONE GL_ONE_MINUS_SRC_ALPHA
depthWrite
alphaGen portal 2048
}
}

textures/my_portal/portal_tex2
{
qer_editorimage textures/my_portal/a_portal2.tga
surfaceparm playerclip
surfaceparm nolightmap
portal
{
map textures/my_portal/a_portal2.tga
blendFunc GL_ONE GL_ONE_MINUS_SRC_ALPHA
depthWrite
alphaGen portal 2048
}
}
-----------------------Copy/Paste--------------------------------
into a new textfile and save it as my_portal.shader (use all file extensions tab when saving as)

then for a_portal.tga (can also be a_portal.jpg) and a_portal2.tga
You can download them by reading through here
You'll need to save these two files in C:\SOF2SDK\Base\textures\my_portal\

If you want to use the images click textures and you'll see that my_portal entry (alfabetical order?) and your textures.

Your new my_portal folder and shader file need to be in your pk3 file. Don't forget the shaderlist.txt in the shader folder..

- Hope this helped more-less?
