I thought I had a fairly robust system but I cannot get my pings below 100.  Is there any one item that I should change that can help me get a lower ping?/

My current system is:

Internet Connectio:  Cable
Processor:              Pentium IV 1.7
RAM:                     256
Video:                   Geforce2 MX 64mb
Audio:                   SoundBlaster (Not sure of specific card)

I have changed my in game settings many times to try and optimize my performance and still cannot get below 100 ping.

Any help is appreciated!! :s9:

I was under the impression that your system can only help you so far with online performance.  Doesn't your internet connection have something to do with it?

I use an Apple PowerBook 1 ghz with a DSL connection at home and often get pings below 100.  I always thought it was my internet connection that was providing me with such a low ping.

I even think the available bandwidth and connection speed of the server you choose has something to do with it.

Anyone else got info on this?

Your ping is simply how fast packets of information are sent from you to the server and the server to you.. Your computer has nothing to do with it. It is indeed your internet provider that will give you stable pings. So.. call them, biscuit eater, and see what you can get out of them as to a stable ping.

I agree with the complaint...

If you have a cable modem you shoudl have sub 100 pings.  if you dont, call your ISP and complain.  They will brush you off and tell you it is the server you are connecting to.  So go to a another server and try it again.

Go back and forth a few times until they send a technician out to test your lines.  If all checks out, you may just have to live with your crappy ISP =)

The way to fix it is to live in a dorm of a good university. I love my 100Mbps connection...

Thanks for the comments and I will contact my cable company and see what they have to say.

Since I am not a network technician I am pretty green in this area and I was under the impression that your computer could cause you not to get good ping ratings.  So any comments are appreciated.  And since playing SOFII I have never had below 100 ping, which has been a year and a half.  With a cable modem I thought I should.

Thanks!
