System Specs:

Shuttle SN41G2B Barton 2500+ with 1GB Corsair 2700 DDR
WinXP HOME
ATI AIW 9800 PRO
Audigy 2
Plexor DVD+RW 501A

Game fails on install at 100% each time with the following error.

"Componet Transfer Error - data error (cyclic redundancy check) copying file assests2.pk3."

Click on Cancel Try again Continue.  Any one of these selections crashes installer back to desktop. XP then generates error report.

Here are the steps I have done so far to no avail:

1) I have reformated the system.
2) Tried the install in safe mode.
3) Used MSCONFIG to disable the start up items.
4) Deleted the contents of C:\Documents and Settings\UID\Local Settings\Temp
5) Renamed the installer folder as I found other software programs on the internet that had the exact same issue during installation and that resolved them. (not mine )
6)Returtned the original game cd purchase to best buy and swaped it for another cd.
7) Installed to my IBM T40 laptop which worked fine *it asks for the game 1 cd at the same point mine fails*
8) And last but not least, cleaned the cd.

None of these options corrected the issue. I have scoured online looking for simular errors in other programs and have found some suggested solutions, but none of them worked. Such as renaming the Install folder under Local Settings, cleaning out temp files etc.

I have emailed Lucasarts Tech support, they only suggested things I had already tried.  I have even attemped install on my buddies twin system that is identical excpet the video card (9700 Pro) sound (onboard SoundStorm) and burner (yamaha CDRW).  Same results, his fails at the exact same point during install.  As a result I believe it is a system board conflict but cannot confirm.

At a loss as to why this is hapenning.

Please help.  :(

This sounds familiar, sounds like an issue someone else is dealing with. Do you have access to a CD drive that ISN'T a burner? If you can beg or borrow one for a bit, try installing off of that.

Sorry if it seems way off in left field to you, but having seen the other post makes me think perhaps the installer craps out on some CD burners. Just a guess, mind you.

Thanks guys for the input. I have tried both of those things already as per a few articles online I found relating to the error message.

I have not yet tried to install the game with a plain old CD ROM.  My laptop has a DVD / CDRW combo drive, which installed to the laptop fine.

I may try sharing out the CDROM tonight on the laptop and try a network install to get it to fly.

Short of that, i will rip out the burner and try an old school drive.

Any suggestions, I'm open.

Let us know how it works, if it does, it'll be interesting to know, and could help someone nail down the problem.

Since you are using an nForce2 based system, which driver package are you using on it?

If you are using a driver package other than the official nVidia 2.45 driver package, did you install the "SW IDE" driver for your IDE devices?

The easiest way to check and see if you have the non-standard IDE driver installed is to go into device mangler and look at the IDE controller section.  If you only have one entry in there, you don't have the standard MS IDE driver.

In this case go into the driver properties and select "Update Driver".  Go to Advanced and select the driver instead of automatically searching. Then uncheck the Show Compatible to see more options.  You'll want to have "Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller" for the driver.

This will force a re-detection of your IDE devices and require a reboot, but could help with the file copying issue.

Good news. I used a different drive to install the game from and it worked.

So it appears as if the game dosen't like some high speed burners.  The two that I tried that the game failed on are Yamaha CDRW and a Plexor 501a DVD+RW.

I used a slower CDROM drive 24X that worked fine for install.

Thanks to all who gave me some input and direction, much appreciated.

Off to actually play the game!   :s4:
