the ATI radeon 9xxx series is atm incompatable with Open GL 1.4 which is used in JA. ATI was unable to fully integrate it as uf the cat 1.7 release. ATI cards run open GL 1.399. this causes problems with performance and visual glitches. these problems should be fixed with the next cat release so if you are having problems this is probably why.
edit- the game appears to work with the 3.6 catalyst drivers but not the 3.7s. So either switch to those or wait for the Catalyst 3.8s which should release on October 8th

Just wondering, do you happen to know why us ATI users keep getting different errors instead of some sort of consistent problems?  For example, myself and another user have very similar system specs but crash differently.  He crashes in single player between level loads while I crash in multiplayer between level loads.  Only reason I ask is because if we can figure out a setting related to GL that is causing the difference, maybe a temporary psuedofix can be done.

My specs:
ASUS P4C800 Deluxe
P4 2.4c o/c'ed to 1000 fsb
Corsair XMS PC3200 LL at 400 fsb with CAS 2, 3, 2, 7
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro rev. 1.0
Sound Blaster Audigy 2

perhaps it is another issue in adition, or because you aren't all using the exact same settings, or because you aren't all using the same comps. It should be fixed soon, the cat 3.8s are due soon.
(nice comp btw)

as I said it is subject to variables, (settings, other hardware, etc) but for those with problems this is in all likelyness the root of those issues.

merlin if your a wizaard  or even   have a clue

YES OVERCLOCKING YOUR SYSTEM DOES CAUSE  MORE HEAT !

did ravensoft /lucas arts /or any of the activision guys   run the game   and  said program  within an overclocked system ?  .. probably not ..

overclockin produces  more errors..  as you are now running your hardware beyond spec ..hence  dont do  it ..  thats what i meant with my post , also i have tried the  catylyst 3.7 drivers and have seen not a single crash  with JA .. but i did have a few issiues with  command and conquer generals  zero hour .. but thats a different game , different forum ..and totally different subject .. J  A will run on  the ATI cat 3.6  drivers  just fine tho

veiw the read me that shipped with the game

I don't know if those issues that ATI cards have are the reason but I do know that is says in the requirements that the game needs OGL 1.4 compatability and I also know that ATI cards don't have that completely yet as they are having problems implementing a few of the instructions in the drivers. I also know that as of cat 3.8 ATI cards should be fully OGL 1.4 compliant and some of the problems should go away. Also have you taken into account the fact that people with different settings/hardware may be having different incompatibilities for that reason.  I am pointing out a known issue that has a good probibility of being the source of MANY but not all of the problems for people with ATI Radeon 9xxx cards.

I'd have to side with Merlin on this one, as I've seen the peculiar errors JKA can produce on NON overclocked systems with ATI Radeon's myself.

On a side note, I've been looking, and noticed that all the systems I've seen producing these odd errors also have a SB Audigy. One Radeon 9800 pro system I've seen with an SB Live has no problems. Perhaps it's a combination of those two, Radeon/Audigy?

Stranger things have happened, and I may be way off in that last. But either way, Merlin's right, and I don't see why you're jumping down his case anyway Widomaker, since Merlin never said one word about overclocking in the first place.

i was not jumping on merlin .. but if ya read the post above

P4 2.4c o/c'ed to 1000 fsb

if ya overclock a  FSB that high yes it will lead to issiues ..i aM SORRY IF MERLIN TOOK THAT REPLY THE WRONG WAY I WAS NOT RESPONDING   JUST TO HIM ALONE ..

if your overclocking your system it will not and cannot run as stable as the game developer wrote the game ..since they do not overclock a system to write a game ..
