I am trying to understand what this adjustment  does? I see that it  will lower pings, the lower you bring this: but what does this setting actually do ?
And also what is a  good average setting for this on a 16 person server?
I have seen some configure posts stating to keep this around 20 .. but no way  can i adjust my server to  run with this at that setting! Mine runs more between the 12-15 range..   What gives ?

this is the max frames a second that a client can have, 12 - 15 thats a bit too low i think, the higher the fps clients have the better they run. i would say set it to 60 or 50, no way at 10.

do people complain about lag on the server?

i assume u mean sv_fps

this is connected to the client side snaps, its basicly the max world updates per second the server sends the client, increasing this setting will radicly increase ping times. the server setting limits the clients snaps. On the client side pb also restricts the snaps to 20 - 50.

There is generaly no percevable difference except the ping times when altering this setting, it should be kept at 20, if some of the exentricities of the q3 engion are still in effect altering this slightly or higher than clients can have a very negitive effect.

But I have a 2000/370 connection, and should be able to hold 16 players with no problems with a max rate of  5000.

when i raise the sv_fps over 15 i get radical pings with  lag spikes that  last 5-10 seconds when people are connecting, with a near full server..

Radical ping i mean this, in the 200- 350 range..
With the  sv fps down at 12 pings r  running in the 70-175 range..
i dont notice any diff   in game play, nor do  the clients.. with it at 12 i was getting good  performance just the occasinal lagggggggggggg  here and there every 5 min  or so ..
so thats why i am looking into the diff sv_fps   idea....
any other suggestions i  can try ?

Hi all.
      I have messed about at length with the fps settings & agree with spike. I tried settings at 10 to 15 & got some very strange affects in the game like Ppl jumping from one place to the other, frame shifts etc. In the end it has to be 20..lol. As for com_maxfps I will try the settings posted here as I have never tried these. Another post somewhere suggested setting this to 125/250 but I just dont know about this. When the servers very busy it all gets abit jaggy.
                                        *Here's a tip for uk adsl user's. Do not go with BT Broadband. Its a nightmare. They own you for less than a meg & you can't get out of the contract! Believe me I have tried!! They are b******s. lol.
