A friend of mine bought a JK2 server for our clan, me and him are the only one with rcon. Lately he has been having a realy bad ping on the server, now he acuses me for changing something with rcon so his ping is bad, all other pings are normal. Now my question is, Is that even posible to change the ping of one person true rcon? and if so how would i do that and how would i undo it?

My friend lives in Australia the server is in Germany.

I already told him that i had nothing to do with changing his ping but he doesn't beleave me...and i sure don't want to lose a friendship over this...

I hope to see a responce from raven on this...

He's in Australia and he's unhappy with his ping to a server Germany?  

Tell him to do a Tracert to the server, and write down every IP address from his location to the servers, and then do reverse IP lookups on those, call the admins and request that they each update their equipment so he can get a good ping.

Oh wait, that's a terrible idea.  Tell him to connect to a server in Australia, or quit whining.  If he wants to throw away friendship over something as trivial as ping, it's his problem.

problem is that he always had a good ping on the server thats why hes complaining,but i already convinced him it wasn't me

Blade, I had a similar problem when I was playing Star Trek Elite Force. When we reached the semifinals on clanbase, all of a sudden my ping changed from 20-40 to 400-500.

Appearantly my provider changed some stuff and now the lookup of the gameservers went through a server that gave the bad ping. I think your friends provider changed something rather than u that changed the server. You can't change the server to give a bad ping to 1 player, if he suddenly gets a bad ping then his provider changed something about his connection.

In my case I mailed the provider several times, without response, I switched providers and everything was working properly.

rename the file i think called jk2mpserver.cfg or something.. its an auto generated file.  

any settings that you create in your autoexec.cfg file should be run. but the server will recreate the jk2mpserver.cfg file with default settings.  

rcon allows you to change these settings and their stored in this file once someone makes a change.  

Just renaming the file causes it to use default settings.

File might be called jk2server.cfg or something else.  I am just going by memory.


BTW:.. I have serveral admins and one accidently gave out the rcon by typing it in wrong.  So someone who saw it then changed the rcon and locked us out.  I had to go in and look into this file to see what the current rcon was so I could login and retake the server without taking the server down.

Hmm, I live in Australia and whenever I connect to a European server, I usually get a ping of at least 350, which is something I'm not usually happy with.  If your friend got a ping he was happy with a server in Germany from Australia, then he was very lucky.
