well, if ur saying ur not great with comps, id recomend against it.
but for a start ul probably need a new fan.
ul need to go into bios and increase fsb if its a newer proceser, but dont do this til u get and fit the new fan properly.

here is some over clocking fourum, also search on google for "overclocking CPU" or for "overclocking <insert processer name>"

Overclocking.com forums

edit: if u dont no much bout comps, its unlikely ul notice any diferance in speeds, its mostly for hardcore users ETC.

it really depends on your motherboard.
some boards will let you manually set the CPU multiplier..
or incrementally raise the FSB 1mhz at a time.. or etc etc.

also it depends on what cpu you have to begin with.

like for eample if your cpu is made for 133/266mhz FSB ,
and you raise the bus speed all the way to 166/333 in one shot..
..then technically you just overclocked your cpu. but chances are it will crash without higher voltage.
so now you have to play with the cpu voltage to find a stable setting.
and again, depending on the cpu , you risk frying the #### thing before you find a balance.

its safer to just raise the FSB one mhz at a time, leave your voltage alone ,
and every few days raise it another mhz until you start to see errors and or/crashes.
then come back a few mhz and leave it alone.
so you might get your 133FSB up to like 140 ; but only if the motherboard allows incremental FSB settings.
(most don't)

another way is to mess with your cpu multiplier, and leave the FSB alone.
so like for example the AthlonXP1800+ @1533mhz runs on a 133FSB with 11.5 multiplier
(which is auto-detected by your board at POST)

so if you manually change the multiplier to 12 (or 12.5 say)
..then your chip will run at 1600mhz  (or 1666)

but again , most boards don't even allow you to do this.
some boards are more 'overclockable' than others.

you'll have to check your BIOS for available settings , and then figure out your options.

----------------------------
p.s-personally I don't overclock my #### I just buy better hardware. heh

I wouldn't bother - for average user the risks of creating an unstable system outweigh the benefits in my mind.

My A7N8X lets me set the multiplier via the BIOS :)

I got my 2400+ (with stock cooling) running as a 2600+ which isn't that big a oc if ya look at pure mhz but its nice to get something for free.
Im gonna try 2800+ speeds as soon as I get my last case fan installed :)

*edit*
Oh yah and its been rock solid for something like 2-3 weeks now.
Thats more than I can say for some of my 9700 Pro oc's :D
