I have been introduced by a friend , to a program that is suppose to increase your download connectivity speed. Im sure there is more than 1 out there, this one is by speed guide. He says he saw a great improvement in his download speed test results. Im wondering if there is truth to this or is it a manipulation of the numbers,, also , will it help Upload speed as well ? thanks

Uncapping your modem is probably not legal, but yes there are registry tweaks and and TCP/IP optimizer programs that can somewhat increase your speed. But for the most part if it's configured right to begin with they won't do much...

YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary)... You can get both upload and download improvements by using such optimizers - provided that it knows enough about the characteristics of your specific connection. In some cases, f.x. if your line is unusually noisy, it may even give you less speed. It will never provide you with speeds better than the limitations set by your connection. Advise: Back up the current config and try out the tools. Find a benchmark site, check the ping of your games, check the average download/upload speed.

basically for what I said... anything LEGAL can't get you above your upload and download cap. My DL is capped at 256k and my UL is capped at around 40k, I think that's pretty standard for cable modems. Now that I've reached my cap there is nothing I can do to go faster (legally anyway)

the progs can help you reach your cap tho. make sure you run ad-aware after installing any download accelerator, as a lot of them are infested with spyware.
