Is there a console command to change the refresh rate while in game?

One of my clanmates just got a new video card and would like to enable V-sync, but the game will only display 60fps due to his refresh rate, while our other clan member gets 75.

I think this question has been asked recently... and I believe the command is

r_displayRefresh

Don't set it too high :)

He'll probably need to use a program to lock his refresh rate in Windows.
If he has XP and an NVidia card, then something like RefreshForce or RefreshLock will probably do the trick.

Sorry for resurecting a month old thread, but I thought it would be better than starting a new one.

I didn't really follow up on this issue until now when I'm in the same circumstances as I had posted before.

When I use the "/set r_displayRefresh 85" command it says that the refresh will be changed on restart.  I quit to the main menu and type "r_displayRefresh" to check the value and get "r_displayRefresh "85" default "0.""

When I go back into a game with V-Sync enabled, my frames per second are still showing at 60.  When I check the r_displayRefresh in the game it's still set to 85.

If I quit the game entirely, go back to Windows, restart the game, and then check the r_displayRefresh it tells me "r_displayRefresh "0" default "0.""

Why doesn't this work?  Why does the variable default to 0?  And why does it drop it's value after quiting the game?

Not that I know of.  I checked in my SoF2mp.cfg and couldn't find any references to it in there, are there any other config files where it might be hiding?

Also, could there be something that locks the refresh rate in the 3.6 or 3.7 Cats?  I used a separate utility I downloaded to lock the refresh at 85, and that worked at getting the FPS up to 85, but didn't affect the r_displayRefresh variable (of course), but I really don't want to use that as a work around.

I did notice that in OSP when I upgraded to the newest NVidia drivers that my framerate capped itself at 60, and in other mods (including regular SoF2) it was fine...

OK, that's odd; it seems to have fixed itself.  I uninstalled the third-party utility and my FPSs went back down to 60, but I haven't played for a week or so and now when I go in they're locked at 85 although r_displayRefresh is still "0, default: 0."

There is an option to overide refresh rates in the Catalysts Displays tab, but that's not enabled, but now the only refresh rate option I have in Windows is 85, which would leave me to suspect that the app is still running somewhere even though I deleted it and even though I was just changing my refresh rate down to 75 two days ago when I had it on my 19" monitor three days after I deleted the app.

wierd....

Oh well, I'll just go bang my head against the wall now until it all makes sense ;)

BTW, Beefy; great job on the SoF2 RCON utility.

You know, for any Quake engine based game, you can add this to your shortcut:

+set r_displayRefresh 85  (or replace 85 with whatever refresh rate you want) and you will be all set.

Just add it at the end, AFTER the last "
