Oh I remember that.. The Backstab and Spinning Yellow Backstab. The damage was hellish. People were fightning with there back turned doing it... It really killed the game play and balance.

1.03 = sweep back stab one shot kill.

Eventually we started calling people A$$ fighters - because they would run around backwards and try to backstab each other. It was a definite bug in the game. 1.02 didn't have the backstab problem, but 1.03 did.

Raven released 1.04 source code for mod makers, and the back stabs were being relaxed like they should have been. That was enough, so some of us kept pestering L.A. to allow Raven to release 1.04 as a patch.

If you think 1.03 is fine, than you're saying you don't mind having everyone run around backwards to kill each other. It was ridiculous and looked totally stupid - hehe.. having people face each other backwards and attack.  :laugh:

But yah, the time difference between 1.03 backstab exploit, and the 1.04 backstab fix, was enough to kill the game's balance and most people left.

Hopefully Raven has much more control over updates of the game than they did before with JK2.

Personally, I feel 1.02 was the best overall gameplay feel. The dark forces were perfectly balanced. However it did have some issues with DFA.

The best thing Raven could do for JA (besides being completely in charge), would be take any special moves and make them require and drain force so they can't be used constantly and spammed. And, not wait so long to release patches that fix bugs, and probably to do public beta tests for patches.

Oiy.. I hated that move.   Backstab should not have been so strong.  

But also in competition CTF with guns that was the ONLY saber move that you could use.   All the other ones are useless in this senerio.

I had used it a couple times in competition and it worked well.  But once raven took it out, then our whole clan bascially just started using saber only for projectile defense.

So what I am trying to say is that move was the only saber move you could really use offensivly in a full guns match.  

I hope that in JA there will have stronger saber moves that can actually be useful in COMPETITION CTF.   Otherwise, you will just see only guns again.

Yes, I seen lots of people try to use saber moves on our ctf guns server but if your there long enough and seen as many games as I have you will notice that its useless.   :(

I still play 1.03 and yes people we have a$$ fighters once in a while but on all they get schooled real quick. the thing is the a$$ fighting has died down alot and most good players still use backstab just not run around backwards. the one thing i like about the pviot is u can steer into the person and hold the blade on them and if they make it like 1.04 they should up the dammage and just make it easer to block or leave it like 1.03 and take the damage to a lower level imo

Most people don't backstab cause most servers are now 1.04.

Why would anyone want to have it so stabbing backwards is more powerful than forward? That's a mystery to me.

If you want the sabers to be more powerful, that's understandable - and there are settings for that in JK2 (though I think the sabers were better in version 1.02). But having people walk around backwards or turning around to backstab (for more power) is simply silly and looks stupid.

Imagine that in any game, say a car racing game or flying game where driving or flying backwards is faster. Or imagine in in Quake 3 or SOF 2, that if you run backwards and fire a weapon it's like 10 times more powerful
and so everyone is running around backwards and firing.

:laugh:

It was one of the things (besides nerfing the dark force) that had many people quit playing JK2 and never came back.

Requesting backstabs return is asking to have a one kill exploit that looks aesthetically wrong.

The problems with 1.03 backstab are:

1. It was one a hit kill.

2. It was far too easy to do.

3. It made people face each other backwards to fight.

Especially #3 - watching people fight backwards, it's just crazy. :s6:

I think that backstab is good in sp, a light, quick, dificult to aim shot that is helpful in fights with multiple enemies but in most cases is useless.

merlin and absurd your points are good and like u say that light sabers should be stronger and u watch in the movies very little is needed to remove any limb which leads me to belive that saber duels should be a one hit kill type of thing im not a 1.04 player but tried right after the patch came out and had a hard time figuring out how u could ever do any thing but duel there is not really enough umph behind the swing to kill any one with out a long drawn out battle so i found that an ffa with full force quickly became a series of duels instead of a quake style ffa or tffa meaning that it was never fast paced

but this is just my experience with 1.04 if u can tell me how u might ffa or tffa in 1.04 then u might sway me to that patch
