them main thing I see about mapping is that you are limedted by what you can visualize.  that or you work off of a drawing.

Exactly!

If I'm supposed to map some imaginary thing of my own creation, I'll run out of steam really quickly and quit.  If I have to map something from a drawing/photo, or better yet, from schematics, I can sit there for hours and give you something that's dead on.

on reason why I'm amking the Halo mod, I don't have to design the lvls, the only hard part is finding pics.

Have some of you ever tried to make a map using a 3D modeler? I recently heard about GMax and it is said that we can build a full Q3 level with it via a "game pack". I would really like to know how it feels to make a map using a modeler over Radiant.

No, I don't plan to map with it; actually, I have never touched to any modeler yet, but I am looking for a one with which I could do some practices. I wish I could use Radiant to make some *models* as I don't fill high pretensions in modeling, but we cannot export .map files into an easily convertible 3D format. I know that ASE export is possible with a version of q3map2; it works quite well but unfortunately it doesn't save any texture information. And then I would need a "texturer" but 'don't know any. Maybe I could use gmax to help me in this task ...
