I had this same problem with a mates PC.
A strange one to say the least, here's the strory:

XP1800+, Gigabyte GA-7VRP, 512DDR, GF4 440MX.
Machine reboots when playing games (all games).
Autoreboot disabled - no messages or BSOD - just restart.

Tested each component for faults and errors, NONE FOUND WHATSOEVER!
Installed different versions of DIRECTX, VIA 4in1, and NVIDIA DET DRIVERS... madee no difference.

Presumed graphics card faulty. Tested his on my PC - no problems found. Tested mine on his PC - inconclusive (didn't have time to test properly).

Replaced graphics card with SAME MANUFACTURER AND MODEL. Problem persists.

A format and reinstallation has happened, because I think there are some screwy drivers in there. Installed only graphics, modem, sound, and SOF2.

Don't have results yet, but I will keep you notified on our results - I would apprieciate knowing your specs and any info you have...

cheers!

Initial tests show that this has solved the problem on our end.
Its just a shame that we had to reinstall Windows.... ah well,  time for a spring clean lol

Sounds like it could be a virus or a trojan.

i've got an msi kt3 ultra mobo.

but that might be the problem 2 i don't know.
when it's getting colder i'll try to play again and we'll C.
perhaps i need to close my case for a better airflow or need an extra cooler ...
still strange it only happens in sof2

sorry for the long wait.
i think it's solved.
i had the fsb in my bios at 140 instead of the standard 133.
now i had crashes in midnight club 2 too.
i screwed it back to a 135 and low and behold it works again.
weird but i'm playing sof2 again :)

well  i have kinda similar prob, after playing about 15-20 mins it autoquits and goes back to Windows, sometimes i can play about 1 hour, but that is maximum, then it ALWAYS goes back to WIndows........... wtf is up with that???  :s9:
And i wanted to play on a specific server (ie cyberplant) but when i try to join i get THIS shoved into my face - CG_SetinitialSnapshot invalid g2 pointer for client....... ummmmm que???  As I see it, the troub with sof2 is that it is wayyy to complex in its structure, way too many files going here and there just waiting to screw up my playing  :s9:
Any solution apart from me kicking my puter to bits with my doccers or going back to CS ???? OK so CS is filled with cheating preteen morons BUT it never ever crashes or ####s with me

Romperstomper: This game is quite big and fancy. I think you'll admit its bigger (and better) than CS. Install the latest CHIPSET DRIVERS for your motherboard (that help with the GRAPHICS), as well as the latest GRAPHICS DRIVERS. Make sure you hardware is not faulty too!
