hi, basically ive downloaded all the vids watched and watched again, hats off to wyatt earp and all involeved,

ok i have started my 1st map and a have a terrain some sand bags blah blah, i want to go in game now and have a look about to get a feel for the suroundings.

i cant find any tutes/info on how to get the map into the game.

like how to put a spawn point in?
and stuff like that.

sorry if this is a stupid question but it my 1st attempt.
thanks for any help given.

you need to do 3 things
add a spawn point and intermission, add a skybox and compile the map
To add spawn points and an intermission, right click where you want to spawn, click on MP on the popup menu, and select the type of spawn point and intermission, I usually use Deathmatch for running around.

Build a sky box around your map and compile your map
Video MMS_Sky101 will show you how to do this
This site has both the video and compiler for download

just goign to add

you need CoDBuilder or CoDPiler to compile your map

then - make sure that your mapname.bsp and any .gsc's you have created are in the folder main/maps/mp/

start CoD multiplayer

click start new server and turn pure off

then press the tilade key "~"
type " map yourmapname"

its easy and you should get in the habit of testing often

hey tyvm guys for the fast responce, i just looked at the sky tute i think i can get the grips of that,
as for compileing where can i find a compiler, i looked at the tute about making a .bat file to comile but got a bit lost where can i find a ready to use compiler?

Just download Codpiler from this site.
I also recommend CoD Worldspawn Editor from this site too.

ok. ive added a deathmatch spawn and intermision point to the map, and made a sky box like in the tute,

im fairly confused about the world spawn values, in the sky tute wyatt says press N and enter them here, and says he will come back to that lol he didnt hehehe. also do i need to enter values for my spawn and inter points?

also ive D/L the CoDpiler when i ran it, it went through what it had to do...press any key to continue

one line of the many read......
WARNING couldnt find image for textures/sky/training
a new brush format not allowed in old brush format map

then it all looked fine and at the end said....
could not load file..... main\maps\sniper.bsp

sorry im such a noob but .............well just sorry lol

first off

you have to start CoD in multiplayer mode

it can't find main/maps/sniper.bsp because it SHOULD be in main/maps/mp

worldspawn values are a pain to enter sometimes - but when you get the hang of it - it gets second nature

if you search around here (d/l section) you can find a text version of all the stock map settings

I'll post an example (press 'n' and enter these values as worldspawn):

mp_carentan: sky/mp_carentan
minlightcolor .75 .84 1
diffusefraction 0.45
sundiffusecolor .75 .84 1
sundirection -45 210 0
suncolor 1 .73 .42
sunlight 1.5
_color .75 .84 1
ambient .2

hey thanks StrYdeR now that ive seen the worldspawn values that you put there it makes alot more sence,

ive didnt have the /mp folder in maps put that there now.

one other thing when ive compiled my map, where will the compiler leave the .bsp? in one of wyatt's tutes he said after compiling copy it to the mp folder but im not sure where itl be sent after compiling.

ok me again. ive been up all night trying to understand this and went to sleep wanting to cry lol.

i know now that the worldspawn values are the light settings for your map. i press N and this is where i think im confusing myself, i just cant seem to find where to type these setting in?

when i double click on worldspawn i get this message.


and if i right click on the 2D view and select worldspawn i get the same sorta thing but it says.... can't create an entity with world spawn.

after a lot of hair pulling i had to go to bed.
i know once ive found and done it once ill be laughing at how dumb i am, but i need a little bit of help hehehe

The worldspawn entity is always created at the same time as the first brush you make because without the worldspawn entity, there would be no map definition and it wouldn't load in the editor. So, if your map has loaded, just trust that it is there.

To edit the properties, deselect everything and open the entity editor. scroll down to the worldspawn entity, select it and all your entered properties should be there. Go ahead and enter what you need and they will save with the worldspawn entity.
