Greetings, I'm Doc.  Along with skinner extraodrinaire Fragger, I'm planning on doing a little mod experiment.  The mod is being called Dead of the Night, and is zombie-themed.  Because of GORE, SOF2 provides an excellent opportunity for a zombie project, but the limitations in the animations make it a somewhat risky proposition.

What we're looking for are a talented mapper and coder.  The mapper's responsibilities include making a single test map in which to test this zombie project.  The coder's responsibility includes the creation of the zombies (dog AI, walking animation, pistol whip animation) and any other coding issues that arise (no major coding required).

Fragger already has several high quality zombie skins ready for the project.  For an example of this, check out the bio on my site for the project at http://weaversway.freeservers.com/custom4.html

The project has three milestones.  The first is a single player map.  The second is a coop map.  The third is a deathmatch map.  Depending on the success of each, the mod may branch out in one or more of these three areas of design.  If you are interested in contributing to the project, contact Fragger or myself.

Some of those jobs sound more like the responsibility of an animator than a coder?

My apologies on any confusion surrounding that.  As we all know new animations are impossible to include in SOF2.  What I meant by the paretheticals there was that the zombies would use the dog AI (move towards the player and melee attack) coupled with existing animations for movement (walking animation) and attacking (pistol whip animation).

Doc_Brown : You might as well scrap the idea now.
There is no single player SDK that includes the single player code.

You're "no major coding required" just became "major coding required" since you'll have to add in all you own AI and/or re-write the available bot AI not to use special bot clients.

While I appreciate your pointing that out to me, slowJusko, it strikes me as a lousy design philosphy to scrap a mod the second you encounter a hitch.  If what you say is true, we will put our heads together and either find a way around the limitation or redesign the mod to accomodate the snag.

But again, I thank you for your help.

Listen to slowJusko, it's not worth starting a major mod for SOF2 at this point. And by major I mean anything other then server side.

Find another game to make the mod for. UT2003, and other games based on the engine, would be one choice. You could wait for HL2, D3 or Far Cry, which would be my choice.

OSP is client-side, and it's a major success :p
Ok granted it aint SP
Personally Doc, I say go for it, if you can. Good luck with finding dedicated modders/coders/whatevers. They're hard to find :p

What would that slowJusko guy know about making mods... pfft!  :p

But seriously folks - he's right... but I say run with it Doc if your heart is in it. You will eventually learn why most of us have given up modding.

BTW: For the record I think OSP sucks balls :)
