How come when I type rate or snaps in my console it almost never works or when it does work it resets after a new map?  I noticed with my rate at 10000 my shots are delayed but when it to 20000, it works fine.  I just need to get it to work.   :(

It's all in your head. Unless the server has the max set at 20000, setting yours to 20000 doesn't mean a thing. Same with snaps. Unless the server has the corresponding sv_fps set higher, your snaps are locked at 20.

Well I use a cable modem but my shots are lagging like I was using a dial-up.  My ping is 30-100 and fps are very high but for some reason my shots are delayed whether I am playing at 40 ping or 100 ping.  I know its nothing external like other devices or protocols on my computer.  Its something in the game but I dont know what it could be.

That only predicts where your shots will go, not to prevent lag.  Its really just a graphics tool if you have a very high ping.  I'm looking for a command or something that will let my game play like I am using a fast cable modem.  Could it be my isp sucking, and if that is the problem, how can I fix it?  Could it be that I need a 3-D accelerator card or a new video card? I have a Nvidia GeForce 4.

I have a quick, perhaps idiotic question on this:

If a client changing their snaps and/or rate is irrelevant as far as gameplay is concerned, then why does PB kick people if they fall outside of certain ranges?

Let me further clarify.  Our clan's server's have sv_maxRate set to 10000, yet I routinely see people connected with rates up to 90000.  So, sv_maxRate doesn't appear to be affecting anything it would seem.  Also, sv_maxRate is referenced *nowhere* within the SDK code, so that doesn't help to divine how it all works either.

its not irrelevent as far as gameplay is concerned.

when ur talking about the difference between 10000  and 20000 then there is very little, and very few if any servers will be supplying a rate that high,

sv_fps is set at 20 on the server and should not be changed as it impacts ping times, so clients will be limited to 20.

however with both its not restriced by pb so people cant turn it up, but rather the oposit, servers allow the max to be restricked but not the min, therefore peopel can fake lag by decreasing these settings, causing them to warp in others perception of them.

Thank you Spike, btw I *love* argonath.  Wish more people played it!

I added something to my other post, unfortunately after you replied:

I see your point about lower values (actually the newest unreleased version of PSYCHO mod makes this a thing of the past :) ), but the higher values still are allowed serverside, even if sv_maxRate has been set.  Hmmm.  Actually, this has also been addressed in the latest PSYCHO Mod, where if a client's rate is above the server's sv_maxRate, the client's rate is auto-magically adjusted to the server's sv_maxRate.  But, before my solution, it appeared to be unchecked as far as I could tell.

the server does limit the rates, but its not shown since everyone would just be the same number or mabey less, so u can see what rate they request, but u know what rate they get cause u set it.

i would imagin its not in the sdk since its more part of the network code which is not avalible.
