sup fellas,

got a new case today, an antec lanboy.  i added a tornado fan, and a regular one to as well.  according to my via system monitor, my system temp is somewhere around 28-30 celsius, while my cpu (which has attached to it a volcano heatsink)  is sticking around 50-55 celsius.  does it sound as though i could have cooling problems?  due to the new case, better air flow an such, the sys temp went way down, but i dont know if the cpu heat could b affecting my apps or not.

thx,

nut

Well if you ever LAN in Death Valley you might have some real problems but other wise you should be fine. ;)

Tho if you where really worried about cooling you could have gotten some thing like so.

Tho some that use to be cool but is no longer offered is this.

Your system temps are right in the ballpark. CPU temps are well within the tolerable range tho 40s would be better. I wouldn't want to see it climbing in the 60s tho.
Got my 2600 running in the low 30s. But then again, it sounds like a jet about to take off. ;p

I'm a cooling freak. Besides my sk7 heatsink and 80mm tornado on my 2600 and umpteen case fans, I recently modded a stock hsf from an xp2600 on my 9700 pro and made little ramsinks for it as well. Very slick. I'm quite proud of it.
'Course I lost 3 pci slots as a result but who needs 'em. ;p

Athlon XP's can go to 90 celcius without crashing - or so AMD say. You should be fine with those temperatures.

Try to take a snapshot of the heat when you are STRESSING the CPU - ie loads of programs open!! That will give you a true reading of how hot you getting.

I would really suggest trying to get your CPU down to about 38 - 42 idle for best performance. Did you use thermal grease on the CPU?

Good...you? Yeah, that was bit insane and I was sweating it at one point thinking I may fux up a perfectly expensive vid card.

XPs will not do 90C without crashing. lol That's the max die temp which means it shouldn't do any permanent damage to the chip up to that temp. They'll generally start flaking out by the time you hit 70C tho.
