got a small problem here. I bought a GeForce FX 5200 128 mb DDR, etc... and ever since I installed it I am having the worst system memory issues while playing SOF(all other games are fine). Basically I can play a few maps but after that my memory usage gets so high that the game crashes. Sytem Specs 800PIII, 512MB Ram, Win2K, etc....

The other thing is that when I look at my running processes the Task Manager says that SOF is only using 150mb that number never goes any higher. Yet when I watch my memory usage under the Performance tab you can literally see the memory being sucked away from the system with each load. Usually around the third map the game starts to get really choppy and I can forget about playing a fourth map as it's so choppy that it's completely unbearable. Although out of morbid curiosity I wanted to see what would happen if I went for five. Guess what the game crashed before I could even get to that point.

The only thing thats changed in my system is the video card. With my ATI 8500 I could play all day and night and never took a single hit on performace. So besides the obvious things like installing the latest drivers, updating bios, etc... Is there anything else I can try to fix this problem?

:s9:  :s9:

Tks in advance.

Put in back your old video card and sell your FX5200? The FX5200 is what MX was for the Gf4 series.

i agree with mono.  return the 5200.  upgrade your processor and mobo.  they are the bottleneck in your system, not the vid card.

Welcome to the Ravensoft boards {OWS} Erik 'da Red

As much of an Nvidia fan as I am, the 5200 is a wuss card, pawn it off on somebody else, return it, or EBay it.  Go back to the 8500.

Could have saved you some time and money if you had posted this on the EQ forums before you bought it, I would have told you to stick with the 8500.

-Edit-

Yes, and I agree with Supersonic, upgrade your mobo, proc, and RAM to at least an Athlon 1800+ and PC2100 DDR

just as a side note, i picked up a 9000pro 128mb card for my bro's rig the other day.  he had a gf2mx200, so its a fairly healthy upgrade.  the most surprising thing is JK2 running full detail (allbeit at 800*600) pumps out an average of 50 fps!

P3 733 (oc'd to 850) and 256 pc133.  that aint half bad.

Dunno if this will help anyone ...

I recently acquired the GeForce FX5600 128meg vid card. It kicks the shiit outta my old GeForce Ti4600 128meg card. I have it running on an Athlone XP 2700/Gigabyte mobo combo.

Yeah the 5900U is gonna turn out to be a great card once Nvidia gets the dam drivers tuned right.  :;):  Spendy though.  Arent they $500.00?

I broke 14,000+ points on 3DMark2001 today.  Yaaaay fer me!!  Dam I gotta get a custom mobo and case.
