Quote (GOD @ May 23 2003, 1:24 am) | OK, I finally saw this 'Bowling For Columbine' movie people are talking about.
I thought it was a good documentary in most respects, but , not exactly the whole picture. Uncle Jack Clark and Charlton Heston made themselves look pretty stupid - more so Charlton for not defending the NRA, and just completely punking out. I would have expected him to say something to the effect of ' we came after the fact to promote gun saftey awareness'... but not even that he said. He look like a pr!ck to me.
So, I guess the sum of it was the 'fear factor'. Thats why we have such high gun death rates? Ok, I can see that. But America is quite capitalistic and, fear sells. We eat up fear, and we love hearing bad news - because in many ways it makes us feel good about ourselves - but unfortunately at the same time, vulnerable. |
well, i'm glad after all the flames in here you could still watch the flick with an open mind. cheers!
i wanna shoot something now... |

I think B4C is a good documentary, but it is of course an editorial twist on the subject. I mean, I would expect it to be quite rare for banks in larger citys to actually give away weapons to their clients. But - then again - coming from Norway on the other side of the globe - what do I know I won't delve into NRA and weapon politics - too many strong feelings for many peeps on that topic. The major point I think B4C raises - is the fear culture. We are being manipulated into fearing our neighbours. We are also being manipulated into seing violence as the ultimate problem solving tool. The only way to get around that - is to educate ourselves. Btw: Magnum .44 - Hollywood style (WMP9) |

Ok I thought it was really good until I read how much of it was twisted: http://www.hardylaw.net/Truth_About_Bowling.htmlSo I think the only thing going for the documentary was the fear factor stuff. Everything else seems to be twisted. |
