Duh... That much I had figured out a couple years back. But that doesn't change the fact I didn't expect a new Jedi Knight game from Raven, as I thought that after SOF2/JK2 the main job would've been Quake IV. |

| Quote (Sheep Demon @ April 24 2003, 7:26 am) | The game is going to be more single player focused than Q3. It will still have multiplayer elements but dont expect the same game as Q3.
This happened on the UT forums too, any time anything was changed they went insane, basically all they wanted was UT with better graphics. ITS A DIFFERENT GAME! It will be different and many of the features will be different. We just have to wait and bask in its glory on release. |
ITS A SEQUEL!!!!
All the SP people seem to want it to be like Q2, the MP fans want it to be Q3 style, I just don't see why both cannot be satisfied in one game (or at least the SP fans want to distance the game from that! ) |

Yay! Someone who respects the facts that some gamers like sp! Yeah, you got a point. I don't see a reason to leave a popular feature out of a franchise - even if it started as a bug. Quake 4 is supposed to take the Quake franchise a step further, not change it into something totally different (well, it can add new things of course). That's the deal with most sequels: you try to improve on a popular game, which means keeping it true to the original, while introducing cool new things.
If you want mp games to develop, why don't you sit back and wait for Nerve's as of yet undisclosed mp-only game? I'm sure it will be vastly different from any Quake game. But as far as Quake IV goes, it needs to maintain what made the other Quake's popular. Having said that, I'm also quite sure it'll be possible for Quake 4 to have nice multiplayer, but it won't be the main focus of the game, which means that Raven won't do anything revolutionary in terms of netcode and mp gameplay. But if you're lucky, it'll end up being like Quake 3 Arena (reusing the Q3A's superb netcode), but with different weapons and maybe with better physics in terms of hit detection and death animations.
And calm down, just because Raven hasn't released anything apart from a concept sketch and the info that it will be sp based, returning to the Stroggie universe doesn't mean that Quake IV isn't progressing - just look at HL2: it has only just been announced and they have only released like one legal screenshot, but they've been working on it for years and it is slated for a Sept. 2003 release. Though I admit, it'd be nice to see a wee bit of QIV info at E3 or Quakecon. |
