Hi, I have built a map that uses a lot of glass textures, everything has gone ok so far, it compiles and looks ok to me, but when testing with bots sometimes the glass starts to flash (go dark), this only happen very briefly, but is annoying.
Has it got anything to do with the fact that you maybe looking thru many different layers of glass at the same time?
If so has anyone any idea how to stop this from happening?

Go here for some pictures :-

No pictures of the flashing because it is very brief sorry.

I'm not 100% sure of this, I read it somewhere but I don't remember if it is a reliable source. If you got too much glass in your map, for performance gain the glass will no longer be transparent. Meaning it'll go black.

Thanks guys, the one thing I did notice is that before I put textures on the map I didnt get this small problem. Could it be the textures that I am using  may be causing to much of a performance hit, although the game plays fast with no loss in FPS.
Do the format of textures affect performance?
It my be a compile prob, will try and recompile later.
Greatful for any ideas. :)

Since your map is well open with glass, and that you can see every place on it whatever where you stand, you should put your whole map in detail and put hint brush only on the rare place some brush can maybe hide some.

I forgot about using detail, I did a bit at the beginning of this map, I will have to make as much of it as I can detail. Thanks Speed.
As for hint brushes not had any luck using them.
Will have another go though.

No idea if this is even remotely relevant, but which glass texture did you use? If you're using the lightmapped one, try using the nolightmap one, I've noticed because of the blendFunc's the lightmapped one can come out pretty weird if you can see glass thru glass.

I have tried recompiling, made the whole map out of detail, and made the glass texture the one with nolightmap and I still get the glass Flashing problem.

Got some screen shots :-

This is how it should look

This is when it goes dark

It looks like I have too much glass in my map, and I will have to reduce it.

If you have any more ideas I would be grateful :)
