I'm in the market for a new FPS game to play online (when I'm not playing SoF2, of course ), and I'm thinking that BF1942 is looking pretty good... but I don't exactly have a ton of cash lying around and so I need someone to convince me that it's a game worth buying.  So those of you that have it, give me some reasons to spend $40 on Battlefield 1942...  Oh, and tell me what aspects of it are improved over the demo, if any... Thanks

Urm. I sort of got BF1942 and the Road to Rome add on only a few days ago. I install the Desert Combat mod and haven't looked back.

The maps are very big, and at times you can be running around a lot. Like any game, you're more likely to experience good team work whilst being in a clan. You can find yourself defending an outpost on your own, and nobody comes to help, even after requesting reinforcements many times.

Obviously the close quater battles are not as good as SOFII, but remember you are not buying an SOFII games. You are buying a theatre of war simulator.  You get to fly planes, drive tanks, jeeps, various missle lauchers. You get at least 5 different character types.

The main thing is I don't think BF1942 is going to disappear for a fairwhile, lots of extra mods and adds on will come out for it. Again.. Desert Combat is an excellent mod.

It runs okay on my machine p4 1.8 Geforce 2 card.

Buy it...but get Road to Rome as well, plus get hold the Desert Combat mod.



(ps. never played SP so no idea....who plays SP anyway?)

Well, there you have it..I guess two games of the same nature, one set in the here and now and the other in the Future.

BF1942 IS AWESOME, it's completely different then sof2 but still awesome in it's own right.

Lets see...

Well there is the fact of the obscene number of really cool vehicles. You can drive tanks, jeeps, planes, bombers, submarines, aircraft carriers. There are mounted machine guns and anti aircraft turrets. Almost all the vehicles support more then one person...like one drives a tank while the other person uses the machine gun on top. One flies a plane while another one is the tail gunner.

Did I mention how much fun it is when you have a clan? The team play in bf1942 is insane. There is nothing better for teams then a war game.  And BF1942 is the best war sim i've seen.

Desert Combat mod. If by some strange reason you get bored with the game then you can download this AWESOME mod. It is basically the same only everything is modern and there are different classes and stuff. The spitfire planes are now F-16's and Mig29's. There are helicopters which are ungodly fun to fly and kill people in. Also when you are a certain class you can lay down morter things and everyone on your team can use then for some light artillery.

Oh yeah and BF1942 is the best game In the world for people like me who screw around alot in small games with clan mates. You can turn TK off and throw tnt packs at your feet and blow them up and watch as you go FLYING and pull the parachute 2 inches before you splatter on the ground.  Have you ever seen a kamikazee plane fly into a jeep driving full speed on the ground...lemme tell you that is some seriously funny imagery. How about seeing a humvee fly off a HUGE cliff and about 100 miles per, the person driving the humvee bails out midair, and lands in a passing PLANE! Now THAT alone is worth buying the game to see lol. How about an aircraft carrier beaching itsself right next to an enemy base at full speed, flipping over, and the exploding in a huge fireball, killing almost the entire axis team of 20 people and lots of enemies who were standing around watching?  How about to people flying F-16's FULL SPEED bail out in mid air and switch planes and continue flying?  How about filling an enemy bomber plane full of tnt and blowing up right as half the team takes off in it? Those funny things alone are worth buying the game to see...and believe me those are about one tenth of all the crazy #### me and my clan mates do when we practice in my private server.

I could go on and on and on about all the great things about the game and all the hilarious things I have done while playing it with my clan mates....but my fingers are getting tired from typing all this lol

Desert COmbat is this greatest mod of all time - but who knows how long that may last since there is now a Star Wars mod in the works too, and the screens from it look awesome.
