I got  a copy of Heretic 2 for Xmas last year, but when I tried to run it, it said "Windows 95 only".

Is there anyway to tweak it so it will run on more recent systems?

well i dont know cause i dont have the game

but some programs and games wont run with the "new graphical interface" switch back to standard windows...
that might work...

Hmm... okay... I have a really old laptop I could try it on....

If it still doesn't work... I've always needed a drink coaster.

The game ran just fine for me if I didn't install any updates for Heretic 2. It's really a great game if you can get it to run (though maybe a little over dramatic at times).

Did you try running it in compatibility mode for Windows 98 or 95? Is it the install screen that says this or does it come up when you start the game?

I got it running fine on XP SP1 for a while but then rebooted my machine and it now crashes whenever I load a save game which makes it unplayable.  The only games I can load are the ones created at the beginning of the levels.

It gets to the map and says "loading" but crashes before the progress bar starts filling in.  It's patched up to 1.06 and I've tried the various compatibility modes etc.

If anyone has a solution for this I'd love to know what it is, I was really enjoying the game up to that point :-(

This is really frustrating because I bought the windows version after I couldn't get the Linux version to work.  It would crash whenever  I touched the Silverspring tavern door (and others).  Having spent about 2 months trying to fix that I eventually gave up and moved to the windows version.  Sigh.

I had the exact same problem.

Uninstall the game then reinstall, but don't patch it. Worked fine for me after that.

Sure, it should run. It is only as old as Quake 2, and both games are still played by their respective multiplayer communities, today.

If you want a real challenge -- try running Tyrian on XP! Ye Gods!
