Here is a little editorial I picked up at Filefront.  Can this be true.  I hope not.

Doom 3: Too Little, Too Late?

For you video game druggies out there waiting for Doom3 to arrive, you might find a little release in a placebo called Far Cry. It looks and tastes just like the real thing, partly using Pixel Shader 2.0, which includes dynamic, per-pixel lighting and high quality bumpmapping.

Seriously, shoot one of the hanging overhead lamps in “cold mode” with max-res: it’s like being able to catch a few glimpses into the future. Here and there are foreshadows of id software's godly release, stealing the debut of spectacular, more realistic graphics.

But you have to ask yourself–wasn’t Doom3 supposed to be the first game to come out with graphic technology like Far Cry’s? And wasn’t that John Carmack’s big cum shot that Crytek just stole with orgasmic delight? I think it was.

In the year 1999, a game came out that would truly change my life. For years before, I was an avid fan of the Command and Conquer series. What I was waiting for was the release of Westwood’s Command and Conquer 2: Tiberian Sun. They had previews for the game with the release of the original years before; so to say the least I was eagerly anticipating the release.

When it arrived, what I saw were outdated graphics, a cheesy storyline with fading movie star Michael Bien, and low-res gameplay that made me feel like I was directing cartoon characters in the bloodiest Looney Tunes ever. Aw, but Michael Bien was so convincing in Aliens though...

Okay, so maybe it didn’t change my life. But what it did do was teach me one important lesson: sometimes a good thing left too long goes moldy.

bah. The rest of the gaming world is starting to catch up, but I don't think it's outdated yet.

Plus.. there is no mistaking the quake engine (same as doom) for farcry. Different engines, different look and feel for gameplay.

I'm not worried.... yet.

FarCry - Uses the Crytec game engine. This engine is beautiful once you get the graphic issues sorted out. I'm seriously thinking about getting into this to see what trouble I can get into with it. Which reminds me, this game rocks. (Again once you get the thing running, I haven't wanted to finish a game this fast in years)

Doom 3, well, I wouldn't worry about it until the game comes out. It should hold it's own as it did years ago.

Cheers

I have to add my 2 cents on this 1 for certain...

The biggest thing I have against it is the "leaked" alpha demo... "IF" it was a leak... To release a 1 level demo, should be nothing, even if it isn't the "final" product, it would still beat the pants out of anything else... And they coulda had the first "cum shot" (you sicko [tongue] )

RELEASE A DEMO ALREADY...

So waht?... If you think I am a Self-centered, Conceded, Ass****... I am... But WTF is up with having COOP on a console, and not a PC, that was the final straw for me...

Yea sure I'll play Doom3, honestly name a gamer who won't... But ID's reputation with me, went down the poo-poo-er when they sold out to a CONSOLE...

Sure I like consoles, GTA3, I went and got 1 just so I could play it, and it rocked, Then came the PC version whipping the living..........

I've always given credit where it's due, all the way back to Wolf3D... But this taking forever waiting for this game, to have a console screw me out of a feature I would LOVE is just DISGUSTING... :puke:

Man thats a lot of crap you just spewed.

If you have spent any time at all with the Alpha it would have been obvious to you that there is no way it was leaked on purpose.

ID NEVER gave any kind of relese date for D3, all you have ever heard was speculation from game mags and Activision execs, who know nothing.

And what do you mean "sell out" to a console? EVERY GAME ID HAS MADE SINCE DOOM HAS BEEN ON A CONSOLE, seriously, are you nuts?

and yes, the Alpha does beat the pants off of every game out to date, even Far Cry, and in a completely unfinished state, while ID has had almost 2 years to improve on it.

And yeah its too bad Xbox guys get the co-op right out of the box, but get over it, there will be mod to do it on PC within month most probably - and when you consider that Xbox owners get no mods, no new maps, and a limit to MP player count, they still getthe short end of the stick.

GOOD

Your dam right they don't get the cool maps/mods, because its a piece of dung "TOY" in comparision...

I spent over $1500 building my PC, and then add a 21 inch monitor to the deal, Unlike the X Box ppl...

If a Xbox can do it, my P4 3.0 Ghz w/800 Mhz FSB, with a badass video card, and a broadband connection should too..

If there's gonna be a mod within a month or so, then the ID guys would've done it as a selling point, so it must not work right, or at all...

Or is it to get ppl to buy both versions of the game, because anyone with a PC good enough, is gonna buy the PC one, and only ppl without a PC will get the Xbox version, but if the Xbox version comes with COOP, which ALOT of ppl like (or it wouldn't be there) they will buy that 1 ALSO...

It's 1 of those 2, and is a money based decision either way, PERIOD... (sellout)

And last I heard, even the PC was getting a limit to MP - 4 player DM only... granted I haven't been keeping tabs... but I'd like you to post a link proving that wrong... Because then I might be able to forgive selling out the COOP to stricly console...

Now maybe your cranky becasue you lost your banana's, but that sounds like a personal problem to me... Get kranky all you want, I told you I'm a Self-centered, Conceded, A$$hole...

But undoubtedly, I will purchase the game, and play SP... And it will ROCK... [pimp] Because ID does make some badass games... I just don't think of them the way I used to because of this...

It is possible, and I cant say exactly what proves it, but i know quite a few ppl that are going to make it their goal to make the mod, and they are knowlegable to the point that i believe them. You can choose to believe me or not.

The 4 player limit was how the QCMP demo was set up to provide maximum stability, it isnt a code or engine based limit. The max players you are going to allow on your server is going to be set just like any other client/server based game - now increaseing it too much may present problems depending on hardware limitations - since so many ppl will be playing on old machines, having a server with 16 players would blow up their vid card - so it wont be smart to have a game that big, as well as I think D3 uses more cumbersome net code since the physics system is so much more complex, so too many ppl and you will start getting lag, even if everyone has high speed internet.

I wish I had the links right in front of me to show you what i mean, but i am talking about stuff i have read at numerous places and many interveiws, so the info is out there, but like I said, you can choose to believe me or not.
