This isn't meant to gripe (because anyone who's followed my posts should know by now that I believe in PB and avidly support it), but I'd like to ask:

Has anyone else noticed rabid lag or low FPS following the latest PB update (1.026)?

I just recently reinstalled SOF2 onto an XP rig with more memory, thinking surely it'd run faster/smoother (the way all other Q3-based games seem to be), but online, it's just the opposite with SOF2. I'm hoping this is just another too-many-tards-too-lazy-to-use-PB-Web spell (that'll go away in a few days)...?

well, it is kicking about half the players on any given Urban Terror server due to totally imaginary wallhack/aimbot violations.  So maybe it is generating more than usual lag in SoF2...

I have noticed an increase in my bullets going into no where lately.  I've chalked it up to lag or something but this makes more sence.  My friend across town also is feeling this mystery lag.  Comes and goes.  Weird sh!t.

As I said a couple updates ago... PB sucks, and should be trashed.

No way - PB rocks even if it fails sometimes ... you don't know how much people were cheating when PB wasn't released!!!

I'm not talking about aimbotters and wallhackers but just the little things which I hate ... for example 3rd person hack, it's very small but gives a ####in huge advantage - me blesses Punkbuster!

I have also noticed some lack of crispness in the game after Punkbuster...  also some warping that didn't used to be there.

Is this from an additional piece of software being loaded into our game?  Perhaps... dunno fer shur.

Well, I've had a constant jumpiness ever since the first Punkbuster was implemented...but since the last one, it seems that even pinging 50, the bullet hit delay on my shots is sometimes atleast half a second.

People’re entitle to their opinions, but I started this thread as an inquiry only – not a PB-slamming session. Those of us who were around when PB was first released for SOF2 remember that it sometimes made the game jerky/laggy in its infancy. It was usually fixed within a few days in subsequent releases, though. I think this could be a similar growing pain. Even a buddy running the game on a 3 gHz CPU with a GeForce 4 Ti 4600 said his FPS were lower than usual last night, but I wouldn’t assume it’s permanent.

Every time a new PB update comes out, there’re also what feels like millions of people who don’t realize that they could use PBWeb to update their SOF2/pb folder without even firing up SOF2 (i.e. while surfing the Web). All you have to do is download it directly to your pb folder, then fire it up. A little DOS window opens telling to you hit any key, and away you go. This not only makes it more convenient for us in terms of reducing our lag as it updates – it keeps us from creating lag/headaches for everyone else on the servers(s) we’d connect to while downloading the updates in-game.

I wouldn’t be surprised if some of what we’re seeing is being caused by those who’re letting the game update PB (and then, ironically, bitching about lag). If there is something in the latest version of PB that’s slowing everyone down to begin with, using PBWeb to update your files is a better idea than ever. It’s easy, too: Just make a shortcut to the exe, put it on your start menu somewhere, name it something like “Update SOF2’s PB”, and you need only click it now and then to check/update (because it’s automated from there, pretty much). Those who keep updating PB by connecting to servers and letting SOF2 download updates are only making matters worse.

Like I said, I’m hopeful that whatever this is will be ironed out before long. Truthfully, I probably wouldn’t keep playing SOF2 if it stayed this bad, but it seldom has with PB. I just wanted to confirm whether others were getting similar mileage.

Thanks for your replies, all.

Evenbalance is most likely getting flamed yet again with angry emails and such, it won't be long be4 they release another update which addresses the lag, but f***s something else up in the process.  :;):  Which of course will result in another update to fix that, which in turn screws something else up or brings back the lag....IT'S CALLED JOB SECURITY FOR EVENBALANCE.  If they ran outta sh!t to do because they stop all the cheaters, they'd be outta the job.

Ahhh.  Now that my rants over, PB does more good than harm.  They just need to get it optimized and soon.
