Ok, I have made movies in SoF2 where I have had pure screenshots and no in-game sound.

I have watched SoF2 movies with music AND in-game sound!
... How is this done?

How can I record both the game action and sound?

i dunno how you can put them together...but you could change your record settings to "What you hear" and just use the windows sound recorder.

I'm assuming they use some sort of sound recorder program to get that sound... there was some program called Total Recorder? that could capture sounds from games.

I don't know how they do it, could be a really simple way I am unaware of.

Run the game windowed, and use a sound recording program capable of capturing your speaker output.

Then run something like VideoMach to combine the screenshots and wavfile into the vid. Be prepared tho, it takes a little bit of patience to tweak the framerate just right to maintain synchronization between the actions on screen and the sound.
