Maybe I'm just normal...I dunno...but I can distinguish between "real life" and "games" :p

Counterstrike is a realism mod, and my research shows it to be the first realism-based mod released online for anything. I say this because my research is me making up lies that fit with my line of thinking but sound kind of right. Realism mods are based on the simple premise that if you change the variable BulletDamage=20 to BulletDamage=300000, the game becomes more fun. Also, it means that the weapons are modeled after real-life counterparts, to further aid school shooters when they go down to the local gun show to illegally pick up their desert eagle.

Just as personal battles in CS are decided by who crouches first, personal battles in SoF2 are decided by who can start jumping and spraying with the pump first.

which is why we disabled it on our server.

The game is much more fun & varied without the ghey shotguns.

Well bullzeyebob....   I think you missed the point of my response to this thread.  I am pretty good when I jump around with a shotgun, I have seen better than myself, but I can hold my own.  Anyone is better at aiming with a shotgun, as opposed to an AK, because of the spread pattern when fired.  That is not the issue, how good you are with any given weapon or how much "practice" it takes to get better.  The issue is SoF2 is advertised as a "Tactical Shooter."  It stands to reason that if I buy a game that is promoted as "Tactical," and more "Realistic," I would expect it to deliver that.  I was hoping that in an upcoming patch, Raven would have dealt with the issue of such an incredible accuracy in aiming while jumping and running.  That is the only BIG issue I have with the game.  That fact alone, and logically so, promotes people to jump and dance while shooting.  It makes them harder to hit, and their accuracy in aiming doesn't decrease, so you end up with servers full of jumping fairies with shotguns.

In most shooters, have you noticed how the "crosshair" on your weapon gets bigger as you run?  That is because your aiming accuracy is reduced when running.  Makes sense, doesn't it???  Ask anyone in the military or police force if they were taught accuracy in aiming their weapon while on a dead run.  It is good for the military or police to be able to shoot and move at the same time, but I am sure that ALL of them would agree that their aim is compromised to varying degrees, relative to the amount of movement.

Don't get me wrong, I do like the game very much and still enjoy playing.  I also know there are MANY skilled players out there who can take me out with any weapon they choose.  I have to admit though, the more realistic a game is, the more I play it.  I have lots of shooters with more realistic accuracy, but there are other features that maybe are not as appealing as SoF2.

IMHO, SoF2 would be the worlds most PERFECT game if two things were added.  First, less accuracy while running or jumping.  And second, the ability to do the missions cooperatively.  If neither of these things happen, that is ok too.  SoF2 will just eventually gather dust on the shelf when the other game makers put out a better product.

One to keep an eye on....  "Ravensheild."   It is actually Rainbow Six:  III.  The demo has great graphics, the accuracy issue seems to be dealt with logically, and the AI do what you tell them to do.  There will also be co-op play in the missions as I understand it.  The game will be released on 3/19/03.

Thanks for listening.         :)

Tactical: I jump around so you can't hit me.  That's a tactic.

Realism: The only realism marketing that I saw on the box of the game was something to the effect of "Warning: This game includes ultra-realistic depictions of gore in modern warfare" or something of that sort.

If you want the one shot one kill games, then go play some Tom Clancy stuff.  Just because a game has some real life weapons doesn't mean that it has to be a realistic (read: "boring") game (see Battlefield 1942 & MOHAA, two of the more popular non-realistic games out now).

ReverendTed : The inital hit is based off a hitbox, yes... but after that, its based off the per-pixel / per-poly stuff. It blends the animations - but not instantaneously. When you see someone go ulta-thin client side, bets are that the same thing will happen serer side (it uses the similar code).

I'm new to this game so guess you would class me as a camper. What I don't understand above is if you get kicked for camping why not kick people for jumping.
In an ideal world bouncers would stick to individual games like DM and campers would stick to team games like CTF. But as long as there are ranking websites out there people will always cross over to look for easy pickings.

Sounds like Glock has the right idea by creating a server specific to the way they like to play the game. More of that would lead to a lot of happy campers..... & bouncers.
Wish I could start a server and make me indestructable or I'm gonna have to change my name to cannon fodder.
Can anyone tell me if there are any servers aimed at newbies?

:s10: P.S. If someone is slagging you off in the game just ignore it, they're probably some annoying know nothing kid. Just shoot them as much as possible cos it's against the law iin real life, besides they can't buy beer lolololol :p
