im getting a Radeon 9500 pro 128 mb in a week er so. 9500 is the best card on the market right now., that is if you cant spend $400.

I hope you meant to say the 9700 Pro 128 meg.  That is the best on the market today.  Only $287.00 USD.

i know 9700 is best card on the market but in most places its still pretty expensive.

i guess i should have said the 9500 pro is the best card in the budget range.

First off... oh my word... this is the prettiest FPS I have ever seen. Ever. Like... ever. I'm in a state of shock.

However, I know as soon as I try to play it my Gf3 is going to just like... burst into flames. Like... it'll render a frame and a half... then it'll just like... explode and I'll get little shrapnel bits in my ankles. That would suck.

I have a great job, and almost no billz so I can blow a decent sum of money on a next-gen video card. So here's the debate I want to start. GeForce-FX, or 9800 Pro? Here's where /I'm/ coming from on the issue, but I want to hear other peoples opinions before I run out and blow almost $500 on a toy. :D

GeForce-FX - It's a little bit slower benchmarking right now, but that's due to the fact that the actual drivers for it are still in beta. GeForce cards age like wine, they just get faster and faster the longer you have them thanks to the nifty programmable GPU. However no indication is being given on just how fast it'll be, but ATM it keeps up with the 9800.

Radeon 9800Pro - From a hardware standpoint this thing is a TRUCK!! However, my experiance with Ati hardware has left me with a really bad taste in my mouth, due to systematicly terrible drivers. I don't know if this has improved (much) the last Ati card I had was a Radeon 32mb. Ahh... the classics.

You guys are all gamers, and reasonably smart people so like... here's the question. Which, in the long run (I don't want to do this again for a year or two) is going to be a better card? Going on experiance I've had my Gf3 for over a year now and she still frags the other cards of her day, but Ati's stuff always renders lighting a bit better. ::sigh:: so very very undecided.

Well i saw some benchmarking results for the 5200 and the 5600 and the 9500 pro 128mb tore the crap out of the geforce. and the 9500 isnt even radeons top model., the 5800 still gets beat by the 9700.

it just seems at this point nvidia is getting pounced by ati.
for your comparison some benchmarks for the new fx line. they are near the end of the article.

ive settled on Radeon 9500 128mb., thats the best i can get for the limited amount of funds i have. and judging by everything ive read the 9500 is rock solid.

Yeah... and the 9800pro is only $400 too. I've always been a die-hard nVidia fan... but it's starting to look like they had the ball... they were runnin with it... then all the sudden, they had no clue where the ball was anymore. The FSAA w/8x Anisitropic benches are just appaling. Like I said, it may just be driver issues... I have no doubt that the FX will get faster. I'm starting to wonder though if it's worth the money. :-/

true..,  they did say some of it was driver related but you shouldnt have to wait a few months to get new drivers to get the performance you expect from those kinds of cards.
