Hi people,
i have some weird problem, sof2 is freezing on my machine. Sometimes i can play 3 or 4 hours and all runs fine, othertimes i got a freeze after 10 min. The picture is freezed and throu my speakers i hear a beep, that doesnt stop until i hit the resetbutton.
I have this since 2 months i think, i reinstalled windows several times, cleared my harddisk, updated my bios, reinstalled sof2 several times, put out my tv-card, cleaned my pc :D  and asked everyone i know, but it keeps freezin.

I use a 1,4 athlon thunderbird on a elitegroup mainboard with via chipset, 512 mb sd-ram and a radeon 9700 pro (donĀ“t lough a better cpu will follow when i got money  :;): )

The Freezes are very annoying, so it would be very nice if anyone can help me or make suggestions.

Greets

Beefyman, i use DirectX 9 with Catalyst 3.1. Drivers.
I have a Terratec DMX Soundcard, it is DirectSound compatible, but not WinXP compatible, so i use it with standard xp drivers. They work fine i think or does this effect my problem?

The freezes occcure an all maps and servers. :(

I forgot to tell ya, that i had massive installation problems. If i install sof2 normally via cd i will get a bluescreen and the pc reboots. Only copying cd1 to my hdd and copying the pk3-files manually in its directories worked for me.
Whats wrong with my machine, anything other runs fine   ???

Hmm... I think you may need to set your registry values manually then, I'm not sure if it would be legal for me to post them here so I would ask them...  And also make sure you have your cd key in sof2key file in the sof2/base/mp folder in lowercase and without dashes on the first line.
(i.e. xxx111xxx111)

If not, try looking for different sound drivers, preferrably from your manufacturer, it looks like it could be a sound problem based on the beep...

If not... check your graphics drivers.

CPU is fine dude, I got a 1.67GHz and it's doin me great.

Thanks for your reply beefyman,
I have a registry key "ravensoftware/sof2", u said i have to set the values manually then, what should i set?
My key is ok. My soundcard manufactor provides no xp drivers for this card, as i said before i use standard xp driver. hmmmm

10 minutes ago the freeze happend again, after 2 hours smooth gaming :( , i looked in the eventlog under windows and it said the following:

AMLI: ACPI-BIOS tries to write into the unvaild E/A-Portadresse (0xcf8),which is located in a protected area: "0xcf8 - 0xcff". This can cause system instability. Contact the manufacturer for technical help.

What does that mean? Can anyone help?

Doesn't the acpi have to do with the power conservation features of the motherboard/windows?

I believe so... It would almost definitely be a BIOS problem then, you seem to be having no problem with your registry.  The only problem would be in an automatic update.
