the bios on my mb allows me to change the acpi...maybe he should check that first before he flashes his mb..not that flashing it would be bad...but if it is a simple...change the acpi on boot issue then that would be better than taking the chance of a bad flash.

I tried to update my bios last night, but the flashutiities i used (winflash and awdxxxx) gave me error messages befor the update started. I decided not to ruin my sytem, so i keep the old bios.

Regarding to the ms article spike linked, i have an issue with the bios, which is trying to read/write in restricted areas defined by xp. I have installed win 2000 last night on another partition, and sof2 ran fine today for couple of hours, no freezes yet.

Spike, i have one more question:
Does win 2000 have the same issues with bios and the restricted area as xp has?

Thanks and Greets to all trying help here :)

I think they are pretty much the same as far as that is concerned as they are both NT operating systems... I wonder why one works and not the other... I would go into your BIOS and modify the ACPI control if possible and try it again in XP.  If not, I'd stick with Win2k for SoF2.

the issue described in the article is only an xp issue, the artcile is for developers and the changes they must make to there bios to make it xp complient.
