I have an ATI 9000 in my Alienware area 51 laptop. It kicks ass. I run a 9700 in my gaming machine and I like playing on the laptop just as much. Despite the fact that I know the 9700 is faster by the bench marks, the 9000 in the laptop runs great and some days I perfer it. Even in an rmg map. I used to use a 4600 in my gaming machine, the laptop with the 9000 gets a better 3d mark. Neither come close to the 9700 though.

Only problem with 9700 so far was a strange heat problem. It would lock up after playing for an hour or more. I fixxed the problem by removing the heatsync and cleaning the grease off and sanding the top of the gpu and sync, than reapplying silver paste and reattaching sync. I also attached syncs to memory. Heat problems went bye bye and no more locks.

I know it's off topic but........i use a GeForce 3.

I used to get 50-60 FPS in 640x480 with all settings set to low.  I then bought one of Gigabyte's new KT400 chipset motherboards (GA-7VAXP is the model number) Inserted two sticks of 256mb pc2700 DDR RAM and an AMD Athlon XP 2000+ processor.

I now get 125 FPS almost constantly with 1024x768 all settings high.  Sometimes it will dip to 80 FPS if alot of nade spamming is going on but overall i am very happy now.

Sometimes it's not the vid card thats the performance problem.

I'm also looking for a new video card, I have Gf4 MX440 64mb. One of my friends just got a new comp with a MSI GF4 Ti4200 128mb, well after seeing Unreal 2 staggering like a b!tch on my computer with all settings on low, and seeing it on his computer with all settings at max I saw the real difference in quality of graphics.

I'm not going to pay like 400 bucks for some radeon 9700 or Gf4 4600 but I do want something that's a lot better. I also saw an ASUS Gf4 Ti4200, I think that's one I might get... but I also think about waiting a couple of months til the 9700 is cheaper.

btw what the #### is this: Asus V9480/TVD TI4800SE 128MB 234,00 card??? I never even heard of it.

You can get 4600's for $250 bucks now, and 9700's for $300.  I wouldn't buy anything lower than a Ti4200.  Or just wait a few more weeks for the 9900's and Nvidia's next offering to come out.  Prices will fall again.

The Ti4800SE is a Ti4400 with AGP 8x capability (Ti4800 is a Ti4600 with AGP 8x).  Virtually NO performance increase, just marketing.

Right now, I couldn't recommend getting an NVIDIA graphics card.  Compared to the 9700 Pro's going for $300 now, and the 9500 Pro's for ~$210 or so, the GeForce4 Ti cards are no longer the best buys on the market.  ATI launches the Radeon 9200, 9600, and 9800 cards tomorrow (or maybe Saturday), so 9500 and 9700 prices will drop again soon.

Thnx for the replies, I think I'll wait for the next release/price drop because I'm not someone who really wants to have the best top notch gadgets. I'm just looking for a card which really improves the graphics when compared to what I have now... but not for ridiculous prices. (I saw Gf4 Ti4600's for 480 euros, that's just crazy)

Well hopefully all being well, I might be able to get my hands on the soon to be released Nivda card for a cheap as chips price.

Having to turn the graphics down to improve game play is reet anonying.

H'mm was my post necessary...no..probably not. :)
