The heading should be bolton not bot-on :)

To Raven or anyone else that has made this work: Please help

I am repeting this request as a new thread because no one appears to answers the original thread. Maybe because it was too old or too long.

I have tried to contact several people involved in this topic, like MAxx3D, Angel, etc, and have received no reply. I guess they are no longer doing anything with this since all the posts are old.
I need some help getting the bolt-on into the game.

I have created a glm and it works fine using modview. I can attach it to the character and the texture looks good, however, no matter what I try, it does not appear in the game.
I have read all the docs and posts on this and have found no answer.

I tried to add the bolt-on in the npc file inside the skin section as part of the inventory group with a line like this:

item {
Name "helmet_test"
Bolt "*head_t"
     }

Is there anything else I have to do ?
Please help me, I have created over 20 bolt-ons and many custom skins that depend on them and I cannot continue.
I hate to think I wasted all that time for nothing.

TIA

Thanks Neo for the response.
I guess the pros do not want to say or do not care to read the posts anymore and this post will just sink to the bottom and disappear.

So much for SOF support. No wonder many modders quit making mods for SOF and left sof for other games. A few days and no response from the 'pros'. This should be a simple thing for them and would benefit many people. I guess if I don't get any feedback soon I will also abandon sof mod and move on. I will know better next time than to believe all the hype about support for modders before a game is released. In the beginning it was great, lots of activity and Raven was more responsive (while we did the QA and testing for them and found their bugs), after that, they moved on to other projects and we are left to figure things out on our own.
If I sound upset, it is because I am. I have spend months creating a mod, skins, bolt-on, maps and weapons, and all for nothing if I cannot get the bol-ons to work.

Well, Neo I hope you eventually find an answer since you say you cannot get it to work either. After this weekend I will give up on SOF.

the support isn't bad..but neutrino kinda overreacted cuz noone reacted on this thread. Neutrino a answer is coming sooN! I think you need to make a new glm for the new boltons.

Neo,

Given ALL the help we have received on this, do you still think I "overreacted".
The way I see it now, support is pretty much dead. So any modders out there, don't waste your time like I did. Move on to a better supported game and save yourselves the stress.

It's not that people don't want to help, it's more the fact few people have a clue.

Stannum is the main guy around that knows bolt-ons and such. It's not like programming where most of us mod makers have a rough idea what to do and can help. Making new models etc with the GHOUL system is much harder than Quake 3 etc.

It obviously is possible to make new bolt-ons... I've seen the guys from HEAT do it... they made some sort of hockey mask. The problem is that when all these people that had worked it out left to go to other games, they never give you any examples or ideas on what they did.

I've tried making bolt-on's myself, the only one I have been able to do are basic ones like a replacement for the briefcase, I made a Santa Sack and a football. These are very simple to do if you read the tutorials - the Carcass tutorial with the SDK was enough to get me going.

I ran into the troubles when I tried to make a custom helmet and bolt-ons to go onto characters, i.e. I made 2 MP5 SDK's which were meant to bolt on to each leg of a player - converted the models to the correct formats fine but couldn't get them on the players.

My only suggestion is to poke around in the folders and find a bolt-on, then hunt around for any files that share the same name or are related to it.. .you might get an idea of how it works.

As far as carcassing models goes you should look at JK2. They have the same anim system and the skeleton for their models. There are numerous new models for JK2 and even new weapon models. They have more practical Ghoul 2 experience than most modding SOF2.
