Actually it's with my wifes new system. It keeps getting locked up in SoF. It locks with the sound loop thing. Screen freezes and the sound keeps repeating. Can't get out of it without rebooting.

I just upgraded her system so I gotta get this fixed or I'm a dead man :(

Her system specs:

MSI GNB Max-FISR
P4 3.06GHz
Corsair TwinX 2 x 256MB XMS3200
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro
Hercules Digifire 7.1 sound card
WD 40GB HDD

I've tried changing the sound and graphic settings. It's not overclocked.

Does it lock with the sound disabled?

I've got the same problem: the Platinum Edition freezes and the sound keeps repeating. The mouse cannot be moved and the only solution is a total reset of the system. It never happened until I got in Sudan (I think it was the cattle barn, it kept crashing there until I ran through it as fast as I could).

I've noticed that it happens when the music changes in the level, e.g. in a critical situation. I thought I tackled the problem after the barn thing :(

My system:
DELL Dimension 4100, Pentium III 1000, 512 MB RAM, 20 GB HDD, ATI Radeon 9000 Pro, SoundBlaster 128, Windows 98 Second Edition with DirectX 8.1

I hope someone has a solution. I will try the no sound thing first.

[HEL]Mekanic, how long do you play before it locks up?
It happens to me if I play for several hours. After a reboot, it happens over and over again ...

BUT ... if I turn off the machine and wait for a couple of hours, it runs OK again. Maybe the components in the system get too hot? Haven't overclocked any of my components, though. It's a strange problem.

I pulled the sound card from her system and removed the drivers. Went into a server and it locked up about 7-8 minutes into the game.

I'm also wondering if it might be a heat issue. Her's runs about 20 degrees hotter than mine. I have a P4 2.53Mhz not overclocked.

My system is pretty cool ... it has redundant cooling in the casing and on the cpu ... not on the videocard, though.
I will try again tomorrow and see how long it takes to crash ... as I said, about three hours on a 'cold' system and less than ten minutes on a rebooted frozen system.

However, with all due respect ... I think it's a bit strange that a relative old game like SOF1 can stress powerful systems like ours. I can play games like Red Alert II and Unreal Tournament for ages without any problem.

One more question for you: which OS runs on the system of your wife?

Finally pinpointed the error.

Here's the error log file:

WindowsVersion: XP
EventType: 0xEA - Thread Stuck in Device Driver

The driver for the display device got stuck in an infinite loop. This usually indicates a problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly. Please check with your display device vendor for any driver updates.

I had rolled back the driver to the original 6.13 to see if it helped. Obviously it didn't :(
