It does make sense ... I have a Radeon too (9000 Pro). I still think it's a heating problem, though ... Never had any problems if I play for an hour or so. I have seen special cooling systems for the 9700. Maybe it helps, I'm not considering to replace my card for one single game.

i'm not sure if this is a heat problem. I've got the same problem too. It seems to happen on some small areas. If i go to that spot, the same thing happens every time. It doesn't mather wether i've been playing for five hours or only to minutes. the game and the computer stops responding and the sound loops.

Returned the Radeon. it has nothing to do with video card if you are using a dial up modem it is your dial up connection. dial up performs real bad when play ing sof games and other multiplayer games your best bet is to go with cable or dsl its a sure thing i use a radeon video card and have no trouble with it everyone wants to blame videocards its your card is fine as lond as it carries more then 16 bit

I can't see a link with the videocard too (unless it is a heat problem). I have had such problem too, but thb i forgot how i fixed it (i haven't touched SOF1 for a long time now), but what i do remember that is that i had big problems with the EAX settings. Never got that to work properly (on various soundcards)... my current soundcard is a Soundblaster Audigy (I). Currently i am "hangfree" and my soundssettings are: * Default soundsdriver * Freq = 11 khz * Rate = 8bit * No exclusive soundbuffers * Dynamic music disabled Try to experiment a bit with your settings in that area...

Godh advice is good also a dial up modem can cause a weak connection and WILL cause your game to hang and get repeating sound and screen will freeze up. I have experienced this too true it is. I found out that it was only my 56k modem that caused it to hang and give a repeating sound and freeze the screen. Godh says the EAX could be the problem it just may be that instead , these are good suggestions GOOD LUCK
