Hello,

I just purchased a Radeon 9700 pro Graphics card for my computer.Everytime I join a server my computer freezes and makes a long beeping sound, the controlls quit responding, and I am forced to power down.To tried to fix the problem by:
1)downloading the latest drivers for the video card
2)updated my chip set configuration agp slot on my Asus motherboard (3 drives installed)
3)I bought more memory(I have 384mb)
4)I re-installed SOF2
5)I spoke with a radeon rep, and he helped me change my bios in order to support my video card
6) I downloaded  3dmark03 and power strip program to help configure my radeon card
7)downdownloaded direct x 9
8) updated windows
9)changed the IRQ of the graphics card so it's on it's own channel
10)insatlled catalist 3.1

BUT I STILL HAVE THE PROBLEM!!!!! WOULD SOMEONE HELP ME? IM OFFICIALLY OUT OF AWNSERS!!!

Before entering a game... drop down the console (~) and type:

/PB_system 1

then type:

/PB_sleep 200

When I switched from a 4600 to the 9700 pro I got a similar lock until I typed the above to effect Punkbuster... Maybe it had nothing to do with the card and Punkbuster... but it stopped my lockups completely.

I keep my 9700 pro clocked at 370/340... or 365/335.  I use Radeonator 2.0 and sometimes switch to Powerstrip.

I have not had an ati card in quite a while... so I am still dinking with how to set it or what to use..

Try the above.... I can play SOF2 6x fsaa and 16x anistropic no prob now.

hey man,

I just tried that, and still had the same problem. Any other ideas? what is radeonator 2.0? can you change the voltage of the 9700 pro though that program?

Does this happen in all 3D apps or just SOF2?  You could be overheating.

What are the rest of your system specs?  Have you installed motherboard chipset drivers?  What kind of power supply do you have?  Are you sure that you plugged in the FDD power cable into the Radeon? (I assume you did...I don't think the system would boot at all if you didn't)  What Operating System are you running?

Did you use the drivers that came with your card or the operating system?  Try the ones that came with your card, or the internet too.

Make sure to install the ATI Control Panel after installing the drivers form ati.com

If your have a VIA chipset go to viaarena.com to get the drivers.

What power supply do you have?

Is this Windows XP? Right-click sof2mp.exe and change the compatibility mode to Windows 98/ME.

Holky,

List your system specs!!!  I use XP Pro... Overclock my card and cpu.... It doesn't crash.

T,

I got it off the Punkbuster FAQ.  Not sure exactly what it does but they said to try it if SOF2 crashes soon after you enter a game (meaning Punkbuster is scanning you).  It worked for me.

I got the latest chipset configuration utillity software for my AGP slot on my mother board.(3 drivers) 112,113.,114

The problem just seems to occur with Sof 2 mp

I have a 350 watt Power supply, and yes, the cable is properly pluged into it.

I downloaded the most recient drivers from ATI to insure quality.I never tried playing the game with the basic drivers that came with the card.
