HUGE aint the word for this map. I mad a preliminary just to see what it would look like and it took me a few miniutes to go from one side of the map to the other. this map will be great for S&D. i can already tell just by the way its looking. also there will be lots of terrain differences so it will make walking around fun. :D And simon, its gonnna take awhile to make this map so when you feel your ready to help just let me know and we will work something out.

Like I said before, I would be willing to help make either some of the structural buildings or terrain. If you divide the map up and assign differnt parts to whatever mappers are willing to help it would make it go alot faster. You just need to be very coordinated in your approach.

As for trying to be authentic and respectful towards the people who had to experience this camp, I think that is a good thing to keep in mind. But also remember everyone has their freedom of expression. Many horrible events have been recreated thoughout the years through books, plays and movies. They all obviously touch people in differnt ways. Some people may take offense to that, but it is your right to make whatever you see fit. You are in a sense like a director of a movie. Try your best to keep it real and just hope that people will appreciate your efforts. There have been numerious movie about these concentration camps. Yes, this one might have been the worse, but people still died regardless as to where they were located. Man is imperfect and sometimes unhuman, but it is our realization of what we have done as the human race that still makes us somewhat human.

I made a Dachau map, and it was not a good Idea. People dont want to see the map because of the history, so I scrapped it. It was very big...

I know the creativity idea very well, trying to make people play and have fun. However, people will send you hate mail, then ban you from places. My advice is, be prepared for the wrath of critisism. Also, that camp, if memory servers me correct, was liberated by russians. Not too sure, but I might be correct.

Good luck.

I came acros this post in the RTCW files... Someone has already made a version of Auschwits, and it didnt go down very well...

RTCW Post

It would appear that from an American point of view it doesnt seem to matter... Maybe this is because not many American Civillians suffered during the war, but to English and mostly Germans it is very distasteful, What they suggested is that maybe the Author should have named it 'The Camp' or similar, something that is less descriptive and dosent line you up for a beating.. [ohwell]

He did get a lot of downloads, but then this may have been due to people wanting to see how bad it was before posting... but they all claim the couldnt find any servers to play it on..

So i suggest (if you are going to make it) to call it something else so it doesnt upset anyone directly, if not then it might all be a wasted effort as people may not host it.

Hope this helps

I say:
You are correct! The 1st Ukrainian Front of the Soviet Army liberated Auschwitz. We're still talking about Auschwitz right? Well, to add something constructive to this string I would like to post an adress to a very good site concerning the 2nd World War: http://www.iwm.org.uk

When it comes to making a map based on a concentration camp, I have to say that it sounds like an distasteful idea. I, for one, would not be the least interested in playing such a map... especially as a german. And I don't think you will get a different response than the RTCW map... I mean, how often do you read the readme's??
