Here's the situation. I'm using a Cable Modem (RCA with Comcast broadband) with a Netgear router to play SOF2 MP, with no problems. I dl the Gold patch, and the game works fine. Game pings used to be 80-100. For the past week now, Pings have been horrible. Most games I'm in, I start getting pings of 500-999. Server pings, which have usually been in the mid 100's, are now anywhere from 500 to 1500!!! In my SOF2 settings, I do have the connection set at Cable. Someone told to me to set it to LAN being that I'm on a router, but it didn't help one bit. It does seem like my internet connection isn't as fast as it used to be, but it's still light years ahead of a 56K. If anyone has any suggestions as to what my problem is, please let me know. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I haven't played a full SOF2 game in a few days now, and am going thru SOF2 withdrawal. j/k |

How did the problem get resolved from your cable company? I just tried to play, and I'm getting absolutely no servers! On the thread about Raven switching servers, someone said something about ISPs having to update DNS names. But Raven switched the servers earlier this week. Can Comcast be this slow with updating? I really hate Comcast. |

Open a Command Prompt(DOS) and type:
ping master.sof2.ravensoft.com
If it says "63.146.124.45" for the IP addresss, your ISP is updated. |

I had a similar problem a few months ago. I have ATT which was just bought by Comcast. My pings were always great, then BAM they sucked. My friend a half mile away had the same problem, but our friend 2 miles away had no problems. My assumption was that our node was routing our signal a round-about way. I did some trace routes, meaning I did some pings to servers, and found that before I even left my cable company's network I was already at 100ms. After MANY calls, many follow up calls, and emails with trace route data I got it fixed. It took weeks! The first tier of tech support wont help you if they can ping your modem at less then 100ms. You need to PROVE to them that you are getting high pings within their network. Good F%cking LUCK, it's hard work {LLC}Jaroom |
