well there are never any game specific modeling programs as far as i know.

however i went to google and searched and this was the first link it gave me, and its free.

i assume it can create the appropriate files you need although it doesnt say what kind of extensions it uses.

btw here are some reviews

looks like its a pretty good program, try it out and let us know i might wanna grab it too.  :;):

Topicstarter..If your modeler don't even knows wich program to use for q3/SoF2 modeling he must be a total n00b... ???

Try 3dsmax/maya/lightwave

gmax is a free 3D modeling program for gamers. It's made by the same company that makes 3ds max.

Edit: Neo, 3ds max, Maya, and Lightwave cost big $$$, if you get them legaly. Though Maya does have a free Personal Learning Edition, it leaves a watermark, but I'm not sure that would carry over to a game.

SOF2MP uses basically 2 forms of models - they are glm(glim) files and md3 - a quake 3 model format - the easiest and most effective program that I have found to model with is Milkshape 3D - it costs 20 bucks and you get a #### load of power for your 20 bucks - I highly recomend it.

Milkshape 3D Site

This program will not only allow you to create your own models but has the plugins to import Quake2, Quake1, Half Life, Counterstrike models, RTCW, MOHAA, UT, and serveral other game formats - it will also export these as well.

I have used the Gmax and find it too much for what we need - these programs tend to work better with higher poly count models and those are a definite no no in sof2 - dont need models with poly counts that are high -

Maya is a nice program too - but it is another that can be too detailed - also found it difficult to get the file format that I needed for a md3 file for sof2.

3D Studios Max is the cat's meow though - but at a 3500$ price tag I think its best not to pursue that one - I think that it is the ultimate program however.

Stick with Milkshape - you wont use all the power it has and it is easy to get it into the formats you need for sof2.

Gmax is a dumbed down 3dstudiomax that cannot render and uses a special file format. it is designed for one purpose, companies send their 3dsmax exporters to discreet and they are turned into gmax gamepacks. several games have gmax game packs including quake 3 and flight sim 2002 and combat flight sim 3. for more info go to discreet's web site here

I'll second MilkShape.

If I was to learn a 3D program I'd go with Maya. It seems to be gaining popularily. UT2003 has good intergration with Maya. And I'm pretty sure I read(form rickmus or Apoxol) that for Quake4 they are using Maya and Lightwave.

I agree with the Gmax/3ds product and the Maya - I have heard the same thing that they will be used to create characters and models for future games. I also know of the complexity of those programs and feel that it is better to cut your teeth on something less complex like milkshape.

I am working my way through 3DS now and man  can that thing do some stuff - but way way too complex for sof2 - So when I model now for sof2 I use Milkshape -

Got Milkshape?
(couldnt resist!!!)
